  1. I've been saying this for years. Glad it's not just me. Even more glad I'm leaving Texas.
  2. I'm so sorry to hear this. I went through something similar the first time I applied--he was going to re-enlist and not go with me. I didn't end up getting in anywhere and he didn't re-enlist, so I avoided the situation but it was extremely hard at the time. It'll work out--if you have to do long distance, it's manageable. Feel free to message me if you want to chat or vent more privately about this.
  3. Has anyone heard from U of Utah post-interview? I saw some people got rejected but I haven't heard anything...?
  4. @Epi_17 I was rejected from the Johns Hopkins mental health program too! I feel your pain. I asked to not be considered for the MHS because I did not want to get another Masters. HOWEVER, one thing that I would mention is that they largely admit to the mental health PhD from the MHS program. So. If your goal is specifically to get your PhD in Mental Health from Hopkins and you can't accomplish your research and career goals elsewhere, then the MHS might be a good idea. Otherwise, I would probably work and apply again.
  5. Oh, that's great news. I hadn't kept up with it and last I heard, the people at my VA were concerned about filling my position when I leave. Glad to hear that was exempted.
  6. Just a note about VA positions-- mine was a great experience, but VA is currently under a hiring freeze except for special positions, so these will be very hard to come by this year.
  7. Start applying for jobs now. These jobs will be competitive, so apply to everything you can. Join listservs, search job boards, and ask people to forward jobs to you as they come across them. Working for a year (or several) is not a bad plan B at all, especially if you find a place where you can publish and get good recommendations. Most impotantly, though, if you want this, don't give up. This is my fifth round of applications, and I finally got in. If this is what you want, use this time to improve yourself and your application. If you aren't sure this is what you want, use this time to figure it out. Hang in there!
  8. @iDance Exercise is great. I lift, I spin, I walk. I don't run. But I do a lot of active stuff. It makes me feel better and is good stress relief. I'm still fat. And so people assume I'm lazy and sit on my ass all day and do nothing but eat. Which is why comments like the one I quoted above piss me the F off.
  9. Seriously? What an awful thing to say.
  10. I would say Harvard's name implicitly carries more weight. Doesn't mean the school is any better, but people tend to be automatically impressed when they hear Harvard. Side note, if you're comfortable, can you PM me your POI at Harvard? I'm assuming rejection at this point but it'd be nice to know for sure.
  11. Waitlisted at Auburn. My POI was super nice but I removed myself from the waitlist.
  12. Can the person who got the Auburn acceptance PM me? Who was your POI/did you go to the regular interview or the alternate? Thanks! Congrats!
  13. I don't know, sorry. I found the same thing when I looked back. I do know, though, that the POI I spoke with before applying said they had reorganized the department and admissions, so it's possible that previous year data isn't reliable anymore.
  14. I emailed the admin a while back and he said interview invites would be extended by Feb 10, and final decisions would be made by mid-March. I haven't heard anything else, so assuming rejection based on no interview.
