  1. I am with you tdevo412 - I am dying to know! Did yours say email/mail? Does anyone know if SVA only sends acceptance via e-mail? Or do they also do postal mail?
  2. I also applied to SVA but haven't received any notice yet, other than the application status changing - the anxiety is KILLING me!
  3. Congrats Valoia!! If I may ask, did you receive acceptance via postal mail or email?
  4. Hey all! Has anyone that applied to SVA heard back? I did something risky and only applied to SVA and one other small liberal arts school. It looks like in previous years most people found out this week/next week via email acceptance, def. freaking out over here - the anticipation is killing me. I don't think I have ever refreshed my email so many times in one day. Best of luck to everyone
  5. Hi Markeet, I live in NYC so I am applying to NY based programs (SVA, Columbia, ICP-Bard and potentially Parsons and NYU). I am strongly influenced by the work of Mary Ellen Mark and Henri Cartier-Bresson, I would say I am more narrative/documentary if I had to categorize my work. I am a big fan of SVA as their students work is very diverse and the school holds an amazing record of talent. What about you? Who are your influencers? Have you gone to any open houses (if so, yay or nay on the schools?) If I wasn't applying to NYC programs, I would be looking into RISD, SAIC, Temple Univeristy and RIT.
  6. Hi Markeet, I too am applying for the Fall 2015 program and I am in the same place as you. Currently working on my portfolio, cutting it down to the final 20. After my final cut, I will start to really hone in on my artist statement. I have already requested my LoR and started attending the Open Houses for the programs I am interested in. I have been out of school for 8 years and did not major in any type of art background. What schools are you looking to apply to? Best of luck!!!
  7. Yale= rejected. been out drinking since they sent me the email at 11PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F*CK ;(

  9. Tysonr2- thank you so much for the great information, I greatly appreciate it! Run photo run- Ohio University and Missou where some of my top choices, but, since my fiancé got the job out here 3 months ago I am trying to go to a school that is within driving distance from NYC. At least if I get into Yale we can live half way in between. I have seen amazing work come out of Ohio, as well as San Fran and Western Kentucky. Prior to applying to grad school I was going to get another BA in photojournalism at WKU but none of my credits would transfer so a Masters is the way to go. As for your question- when I applied at Westminster they reviewed my portfolio and did a quick phone interview which led them to ask me to put together a photostory. Following that I was accepted- each school is different and you never know what they may require.
  10. Hi all, been following this forum for quite sometime and today is my first post. I am so grateful to know I am not alone with this overwhelming feel of anxiety. However, I feel as though I am at a disadvantage to many of you that have posted. I only applied to 2 schools: Yale and Parsons. I recently relocated to NYC from Chicago due to my fiance getting a great job opportunity. So my only opportunity to go to grad school were to apply to schools close to his job. In addition, I have no actual photography training (self taught) and my style of photography is more photojournalistic then artistic. I applied a few years back to 2 schools and was accepted into both: the University of Montana's (back when they had a more focused Master's in photojournalism--the program has since changed) as well as the Westminster University in London. Sadly, I declined both because I wanted to spend my $ on travelling then on school, but it shaped my photography much more. I have only seen really 2 photojournalistic styles come out of Yale, so I am not sure how well I am comparing to the rest of the applicants and not sure if it was a great decision. I have not found any great photo internships in NY ( most of them make you do slave labor than actually TEACH ). I have no clue what to do if I am rejected! Anyone else apply to Yale or Parsons with a style that is more photojournalistic? Any recommendations for some great programs in NYC ( I have only been here 3 months and I am still learning the city). A big part of me chosing Yale ( besides the moving portion) was because I wanted to really branch out and learn other styles of photography, make my education in lighting stronger, and consistentley be under critique to make me a sharper shooter. Crossing my fingers every minute! Good luck to everyone
