OK, Sportsfans, here's the stat update: Stage 1, 0 Nodes, 0 metastats. They did find DCIS, & there were cancer cells in some blood vessels in the tissue sample, so chemo it is. (Don't offer to buy me a wig, my Mommy has already stepped up on that one. And, of course, it will be Red. :D) It's an aggressive little bugger, but it's gone. Probability: 70% disease free in 5 years, 85% relative survival. Not so bad, eh?

Sorry about the need for chemo but SO happy the news isn't worse, and given your spirit, I'm sure you'll do wonderfully. Hope you get well soon!!!

Glad to hear that those percentages look so favorable to you. And you might not even need the wig (sorry to disappoint you), but I've heard some of the new chemo therapies don't make you lose as much hair as they used to. Anyway, I'm sure you would look great with a red wig. tongue.gif

It's good to hear such a reassuring prognosis, and I was also relieved your school handled the situation well. Good luck, MM. :)

I'm very happy you got such a good prognosis, even though chemo sucks of course. It's also great that the university was so helpful about the whole situation. :)

I wish you get well as soon as possible, and thank God you find out about it now that it hasn't spread, wish you the best and stay strong as you are now :) and BTW the red wig seems great ;)

Susie - thank you for your blog link. I started reading it and it is definitely inspiring. Will keep coming back to read more! Thank you, everybody. I will not know more until the 26th, and probably won't post again until then...just trying to wrap my head around everything and keep calm. Harder than it seems to do, even with a good prognosis and lots of support - but I am sure this is going to be OK.

Some people already mentioned this, but you may not even need the wig. My grandma had two chemos (the first one was REALLY bad because the hospital made a horrible mistake and gave her 40times the amount she should have been given) - BUT: she didn't lose too much hair. But if you notice that you do lose a considerable amount of hair, a friend of mine said that it's best (psychologically) to cut the hair very short when there's still hair. So it's not that big of a shock when it's gone...

Anyway: All the best to you. Go fight, kick this cancer's ass!
