Are you moving to a new city and worried about finding accommodation and roommates? Are going to have figure all this out without even visiting the city (esp if you are an international student)? How is the house hunt shaping up? What's your plan?

    Angst away!

Usually you can email someone at your grad school, like the recruiter or coordinator, and they sometimes keep a running list of incoming students interested in finding a roommate or current students that are looking. Even if they don't, they might be a good place to start getting contacts that you can then ask if they know anyone interested.

Late summer or early fall. They might not know if they're taking students before then.

Isn't it a little off to have 18-21 still grouped together? I knew a lot of people who graduated undergrad at 21 without skipping any years.
Not to give your second poll a hard time.

While I don't think that a UK PhD would be a problem, I seriously doubt that most Community Colleges have the funding to pay for the immigration process.  I have an old office-mate who got her PhD in Israel and had great credentials but a really hard time finding a job because of her visa situation.  Universities seem to be hesitant to do it unless they really strongly prefer one candidate.  In my experience, Community Colleges wouldn't have anywhere near the money to hire you for a significant salary, let alone help you immigrate.  I think teaching-focused Liberal Arts Colleges would actually be a better bet since there are several private institutions with the money and desire to bring in International applicants and those institutions tend to value diversity.

Its hard. The worst part is I could have already been rejected but this school only send rejections through the mail. So I may have already been rejected and holding out for nothing.

I think the hardest part is that you visit the campus, meet the people and really fall in love with the program.

And then these people say no to you, instead of some faceless institution. Some reason it just sucks more.

This is happening to me too, and it's overwhelming. Like as soon as I get an offer, I am bombarded with people telling me what they think about the school and how they can't really see me there or think I should wait and see what else I get. I don't ever have a chance to tell anyone what I think about my offers because they jump right into what I should think. It's a big decision and I am not ready to make it based on what other people think about the school.

Yep. My mom says variations of that all the time. When I told her about my first couple rejections, she was like, "Well, if I were in charge there, I would have accepted you!" Yes, Mom, and luckily you're not.

I get variations of this one all the time, such as, "Oh, then you can diagnose/analyze me," or, "So you'll be able to prove ____ is crazy?"

My favorite is: "So then you'll be able to read my mind?" To which I reply, "psychOLOGY is not the same as psychIC" or just, "Yes."

Recently annoying - psychology "jokes."  In almost every new conversation I have had lately about grad school, I've gotten one of two jokes:

Me: I was admitted to X Psychology program!
Them: As a patient? (har. har. har.)

    or

Me: I was admitted to X Psychology program!
Them: Great, then you'll be able to fix So-And-So! (nevermind that I'm in experimental, not counseling/clinical -- that would interfere with the punchline!)

Newsflash: The last 15 people I talked to made that EXACT joke. You're not as funny as you think you are.

No, but here's another cog for the win -- truly, there are two sides to the coin.  It's like picking a dance partner -- just because they didn't pick you, it doesn't mean you are not awesome, it means they prefer interpretive and you are a ballerina.   It could be that they caught the difference, and figured it wouldn't be a good match.  You just set it up as your dream match, because you might have been missing several bits of data.

Personally, the above is my favorite schema of the day hahahaha.

Also, it could be that they held the spot for the 3rd cousin of the prince of Aklabeckiztanianan and they just didn't have enough room for you after that.  You could be missing out on the best experience of your life, but really, it is statistically way more likely that there are several opportunities for you to have your dream experience, and not just the one.   It's not just that people have cognitions that lead them to believe their previous choice sucked, it's that quite often they look back and can see they had a great experience despite that things didn't go as they planned.

You will do great in your future interviews! (See -- reinforcement, if I believe you will do better, you will ALSO believe you will do better ha)

All day I have been thinking that I wished I believed everything happened for a reason. Unfortunately, I don't because I am an atheist and everything happening for a reason implies that there is some greater plan for my life.

I just keep telling myself I will eventually look back on this and see it as a good thing because most people don't have counterfactuals that leave them feeling negative for the long term (social cog for the win).

So I know it will get better, and there is nothing I can do now, so I just have to move on.

Thank you so much! This is all good advice and mainly along the same lines I was thinking. I wish my other schools would let me know already so I can give a spot to someone on the waitlist at at least one school.

O but it's an easy issue to address empirically.

I assume your "film" focus in your profile is fake and that you applied to experimental psychology programs because I am restricting my claim to phd experimental psychology programs (mostly social and cognitive and clinical).

If we define most as a simple "majority of" and we look at the top 50 (or 100) phd experimental programs in psychology, I would best that most require some form of interview.

And we have access to most of the data in these forums in a different thread that posts the interview/recruitment weekends for many universities.

The rest of the data can be obtained easily other ways.

Haha we just need to find someone who wants to do that work because neither one of us Id imagine wants to.

    Welcome to the madness beachgirl14!

My last two interviews won't notify acceptances/rejections/waitlist for about another two weeks. Waiting for interview notifications was hard, but waiting AFTER for acceptances is torture, especially since for my top choice, they interviewed 10 of us for 3 slots.
