Ahhh, yes, thanks! I think I was too shook to read carefully the first time through.
I was in committee 1-Literature and Fine Arts, and my application ranked 4/100, scored 5.52/6, lowest score funded was 4.97.
Good luck to everyone still awaiting results!

    Congrats to you too!!

I got my results (got an email with my extranet account link + a message saying the results were up). It took several minutes of resetting passwords and error messages but - I got it!
I was in committee 3. I ranked 9/90 and my score was 5.13/6.
The letter says the last funded score is 4.84/6, and that overall in the competition 28% of applicants were offered a fellowship (much higher than previous years!).
Good luck to everyone else! As for me - I'm still shaking and cannot believe it!!!
Edit: forgot to mention - my letters were uploaded on Feb 24 so they really have been sitting on this.

...are you kidding me. That is so cruel. What is WRONG with these people? It's moments like these when I wonder why I'm bothering with a postdoc at all when it's so much stress and effort for $45k before taxes and I could be making so much more outside of academia. They say their funding is intended to attract top talent and then they underpay us and can't even give us the decency of knowing an exact date when we'll get results (n.b. I'm not saying I'm among this 'top talent' lol it's just one of their favourite slogans). And they only award 20% of applicants this pittance and so whoever is fortunate enough to be funded is expected to feel so grateful and hashtag blessed. Over it.

FYI all. I got my results. They did NOT announce them to me via any kind of email. Rather, last week I figured it would be wise to check into my extranet from last year, and it took a few days to reset my password. Then I logged on right now thinking I would find nothing and guess what? They were uploaded on February 24!!! Also I did not make it. WTAF.
I second that SSHRC's system is abysmal and the process is extremely opaque. Postdocs in the US at least give me excellent feedback.
    Good luck all of you!

Yes! We have just unionized postdocs at University of Guelph and how Tri-Council funding is considered (internal vs external funding) has been a big source of contention. As of April 2022, Tri-Council funds will go through your institution, which means they will be able to withhold taxes. As MicheLo said, previously Tri-Council paid you directly in quarterly installments, and didn't withhold taxes. So, the recipient had to deal with that. This will be a much simplified process once the funds go through institutions, but overall -yes, these awards are taxed.

To all those wondering about how postdoc fellowships are taxed - If you hold your award in Canada, postdoctoral fellowships are considered taxable income for Federal income taxes only, and not for Provincial income taxes (so if you are in Quebec, you only pay one tax, the Federal income tax). Some funding agencies do not deduce those taxes from your funding (this is how it words for Quebec provincial postdoc awards like FRQSC; they give you one lump sum of 15k every 4 months and you have to manage it, including putting money aside for taxes; SSHRC awards will now be paid through the host institution, so it may be different going forward for SSHRC, but typically you are not taxed at source with external awards).
Everyone I know (including myself) who held a postdoc external award in Quebec/Canada had to put a certain percentage of their award aside throughout the year and make sure they had enough money to pay their Federal income taxes every spring. So externally funded postdocs in Canada pay Federal income taxes to Canada (Canada considers you an employee), but we do not pay Provincial income taxes (Quebec, for instance, considers you a student, so no taxes). I hope this helps, it was struggle for me to figure out too at the beginning of my postdoc; note that I am not sure how it works if you hold your award outside of Canada, though.

Admittedly I don’t have much more detailed info than you’ve got about this, and my picture of it is still fuzzy. I wish this stuff were more transparent! My hunch is that if it is taxed, it’s just at the provincial level, since it’s money from the federal govt that is already derived from taxes? I’m not sure. Any economics fellowship applicants out there? ?
Anyways, I hope I’ve not given any misleading information or false hope!

This!! If (also by a miracle from the fickle SSHRC gods) my application is successful I'd be choosing the SSHRC postdoc over a much better paying opportunity for the prestige, networking, and time for both research and publishing. My bank account is not happy with my heart, though.
I was explaining the postdoc to a non-academic friend and they thought that SSHRC was a small university program based on the low funding. I had to be like "nope...it's actually one of Canada's most prestigious funding opportunities for the humanities and social sciences..."

I'm applying to hold internationally too, and I've also appreciated the outside perspective reaction to SSHRC. All the issues you reference above, but I also had a 'funny' interaction with the research office at my prospective school: as he was reviewing the fellowship details to make sure there'd be no issues with me holding SSHRC at the uni he saw the funding sum and said "$45,000? You know that's not equivalent to full time funding, right?" Because here postdocs generally speaking start at $90k. Like, yes Mr Research Officer Man, I am aware Canadian postdocs are exploited, but I still want the fellowship ?
Nothing like some honest international perspective. I think at home everyone is so used to SSHRC that while we complain we don't really expect anything different.

Yes, those are certainly factors to consider!
I had been under the impression SSHRC postdocs are taxable at the regular rate, unlike SSHRC doctoral scholarships (see the 'value and duration' section: https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/fellowships/postdoctoral-postdoctorale-eng.aspx ). For folks in Ontario their after-tax take home pay would be just over $33,000, though as you mention folks in other provinces with a lower tax rate will see a higher amount.
However - I just did some digging and I saw a McGill webpage saying SSHRC postdoc tax info is included on a T4A.... within which income is generally considered non-taxable (that's where my non-taxable SSHRC CGS is listed anyway)???
Svaaron, if its true that award holders take home the entirety with no tax deductions you have just made my day!!
Edited to say: feel like I can't get too excited about this fact since I've still only got a shot in hell of getting the award. Stay humble, Beals!!!

I was working under the impression it was taxable income (someone who had the SSHRC postdoc mentioned that to me) but if it is on a T4A and isn't taxed like normal income, 45k sounds a lot better. (I also still have a give or take 20% chance of being successful, but still nice to think about taxes rather than if I'll get the SSHRC or not lol).

I'm currently living on the other side of the world, where we're technically a day ahead due to time zones. I think the time difference has reduced my stress while waiting a bit, because if I don't have a result by the time I wake up I know I'm probably not getting news that day.
That said .... I really really really really really hope I wake up to an email with (good) news tomorrow! Fingers crossed for all of us that we can avoid another week of anticipation!

I imagine the turnaround time to accept the award is somewhat short (before end of April). However, I know you can accept the award and then reject it before starting with no issue (and maybe your award would then be given to the next person down the list - I think? If this operates like a SSHRC doctoral award? Anyone know?). I am basing this off a personal anecdote of a friend who won a SSHRC postdoc, accepted, and then several months later got a TT job and thus rescinded her acceptance of the postdoc. She had no issues doing this, and I assume it's a fairly common occurrence as the folks who are competitive for a postdoc are often the same folks who are competitive on the job market.
I'm not sure what the protocol is for those who start the award but then quit part way through. I assume this is common as well (scenario: someone accepts a 2 year SSHRC postdoc, starts it in November, but gets a TT job that starts the following July and thus only actually holds the postdoc for 8 months). Don't know what the funding repercussions of that are though (does the unused funding $ go back into the pot to open up another postdoc? Seems unlikely since the number of people awarded does not vary from year to year).
