Got in using this link to reset the password, then login and then copy and paste the link from the email, worked for me!

You're a saint!!!  I tried that earlier with the resetting of the password but it just took me to that "access denied screen" until YOU provided the missing info!

    4th time's the charm!  Woohoo!!

I’m sorry!! The scores seem so stupid. What is the point of telling us if we don’t know what to do with the info?!! At least if we could see where we got/lost marks we’d know what to adjust or keep. Tho then the next year a diff committee member might hate the revised one anyway and would’ve loved  the original so ??‍♀️

You can contact them via email (or at least you used to) and ask for a breakdown of your score.  The first year I was waitlisted -- and here we are again at 11.75/20 -- the scores were so discordant (like 7.5 and 2.5) that I learned not to get in my feelings about what a crapshoot this process is.  Seems they may have addressed that this year "In the event of a discrepancy of scores of 3.5 or more points between members, a third committee reader is assigned to review the application."

How? I can't get access - it says it does not recognize my email...

I know some people tried resetting their password like I just did and got the same result you did.  (howls in frustration)

Yes, the person on the line told me that the results had already gone out, so they didn't understand why I did not get any emails yet. :(

Oohkay.   Has anyone tried the password hack and gotten any results?

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info!

Can anyone speak to how much harder (on average) it is for international students to get accepted to a program in Canada compared to Canadian students or obstacles that are specific to international students? I know that for PhDs in the US there might be limited slots allotted for international students depending on the the type of program.

Call and ask.  Some schools are pretty open to international students (I was one from the US) and others will tell you straight up they don't really consider international applicants because of the tuition differential.  I had one school in 2016 where the PI would have accepted me but the department said no because she didn't have her own funding to support me.

I think it's a great first step. Definitely prepare as if it's a prelim interview. I skyped with my POI last year in October and now I'm working with her. She later invited me to visit her in person.

    Best of luck!

Ditto this.  My master's supervisor interviewed me via phone call....and I didn't find out that WAS my interview until later when I was accepted in the program.

I will be older than both of you when I finish! But to me, that’s kind of a bonus, because now that I’m a mom, the idea of settling down in some nice college town and doing research that I love sounds good. It didn’t at all when I was younger. I actually met a professor at my last interview who didn’t start her master’s until she was 37 and then didn’t go for her doctorate until later. I found her inspiring.

I was 38 when I graduated with my master's and I'll be 44 when I'm done with the PhD, but it's worth it. One thing you don't want to be is old and in debt because there's really no way to recover from that.  Best of luck in whatever you decide!

  8. Re: thinking you want to do clinical until you discover developmental, that happened to me.  Now I'm in a  program with both clinical and developmental, and there are all clinical people in my lab except for me.  I don't want to do ANY of that, not the classes, not the practicum, not the internship, none of it.  I just want to do research and that's what I'm doing!

  9. Just here to lend some support -- I feel your pain.  Notice Snape in my profile pic.  When I applied for the first time in 2016, I had not read Harry Potter because I was already an adult when the first book was released.  Someone clued me in to the error of my ways and I spent 2 weeks reading the entire series.  It is literally the only thing that kept me sane during that time.   J.K. Rowling is getting a line in my dissertation acknowledgments :)

Good luck to all of you.  And no matter what happens this application season, keep trying.  I got rejected from my dream school in 2016 with not even an interview.  I did get accepted to a master's program, did that, and now I am in that dream program and I *love* it.

Thanks! Honestly, it really just felt pretty random. I added a published review and a couple of conferences, and I re-wrote my program of study, but the project and letters were basically the same. I just tried to write very clearly and explain all terminology, making very obvious the sort of practical payout of a very theoretical project (philosophy) and citing things that made it clear that I was familiar with pertinent literature.  Last time I used headings to make it seem more organized, but I took them out. My score was embarrassingly low last time, and the huge jump in score did not feel warranted.

This is my first time applying for SSHRC, and I agree that it feels like a total crapshoot.   My scores were 2.something/10 and 7. something/10 for a total score of 10.8 and the waitlist?  That makes no sense.  One person can look at the same proposal and think it's utter crap, and another thinks it's pretty decent.   This assessment has some test-retest problems, methinks!

  11. Is it hard to get approved for an apartment on a grad stipend (assuming good credit and positive landlord references)?  Seems like landlords might be reluctant to rent to someone whose monthly budget is 60% rent.
