I haven't heard anything from UW. There are so few on the results page that I assumed that the few on there were anomalies. Laster year most invites went out mid-January, so I'm holding out for that! -

I believe they are separate. You can only apply to one program per year, and iPQB is a separate program. There are so many umbrella programs! -

UCSF waitlisted:/ I don't know what to think right now. Is there anything I can or should do to push my application further? -
I'm here. What is your interest focus? I'm most interested in muscoluskeletal dev.

Score select doesn't work like that. You can choose a date to send, not a specific score.

Unless you're waitlisted I wouldn't bother. -

If they waitlist you I'd consider it. Otherwise, no. -

They gave me two options: Feb 6-8 or Feb 20-23. I chose the second weekend. GRE scores shouldn't be that important, so I can't imagine that if you have a stellar app otherwise that GRE scores would hold you back. I don't really know. -

Kenton. I submitted my app on the 25th and one of my letter writers decided to submit all of his letters at about 11pm on the 30th(!!!)(I also had other Dec 1 deadlines so that was scary!). For that particular app, though, the LOR notification wouldn't go out until your application was completely submitted (so backwards). -

I don't know how they're sending invites (rolling or in batches). It couldn't hurt to call! -

Is Magoosh worth it vs. books and free materials?
sys88 replied to elsiefrew's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
I really liked magoosh. They go into a lot of detail in many concepts, plus there are video explanations for every problem. I think Magoosh undercharges, honestly. -
Unless they permit unofficial scores, then yes, ETS is the only way to send them.

Magoosh Test 1: 157V/158Q Powerprep II test 1: 164V/166Q Powerprep II test 2: 165V/164Q Actual Test: 165V/165Q These were all within 3 weeks of each other. Magoosh covers way more difficult material. I felt that the actual test was slightly harder than the powerprep tests. Aside from that, it definitely seemed like the poweprep tests were accurate for me.

If you have the money, you can go ahead and take it now and if you don't do well take another one in late Oct/early Nov (has to be at least 30 days out). If you take it late Oct you likely won't have an option to take it again in time. Just a thought!

SOP-help book
sys88 replied to dxvforte's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
A book I really like is "Graduate Admission Essays" by Donald Asher. -
the_grateful_duck - that's what it looked like to me as well. I think I'd like to apply through either the OCS or DSCB programs just because they're more aligned with my interests than the more broad/vague umbrella programs. Less competition would also be a plus, but there's the very real possibility that there are fewer spots and a higher caliber of applicants to those programs.

Does anyone have any experience with the University of California - San Francisco's program in Craniofacial and Mesenchymal Biology? It seems like to get involved with the CMB program you need to apply to one of the related programs and then choose faculty in the CMB program. Is there an advantage to choosing one of the related programs over another? I know the TETRAD and BMS programs are highly competitive. Is there a way to apply to the program more directly? I'm interested in mesenchymal development in limb and/or face as well as epigenetics. Thanks!
