  1. I have to say that I am surprised at the recent posts about Berkeley. I think I also held this school to be something resembling a magical unicorn but now I can see that the program does have some down-sides, which is actually kind of a relief for me as I wasn't accepted. I did sit-in on a course and thought it was at the level - if not more relaxed - then my undergrad classes at UCSC (Psychology). That said, Jill Berrek, one of the professors there is doing ground-breaking work with the US government to re-evaluate the way social workers removal children from their unsafe home environments - a huge interest of mine since I was removed from my family as a child (temporary) and know the specific issues involved and possibility for retraumatization. Therefore, I agree with what has been said - if research is your nitch, Berkeley is the place to go. But if you are more on the clinical side - I don't think you will be happy there at all. Hope that helps, congrats to all! :)

  2. I applied to the MSW program at UCB and was rejected yesterday. I am wondering if this a a kiss-of-death - is there still a good chance I will get admitted if I improve my application and re-apply? Or is my application forever tainted?

Anyone else in the same boat? If so, what are your plans for re-applying?

Thanks all, good luck with admissions!

  3. @ontheswpath - thank you for your support! I am hoping to get into UCLA but I have to say that I don't have a car and want to ultimately find work in the Bay Area - the idea of moving just doesn't sound so exciting :/

Do you think that people who reapply still have a good chance of being admitted if they improve their app? I'm thinking those applications may be a little tainted? yes? no? I sure hope not...

  4. @luv2bootscoot: it was my first time applying - I spoke about being removed from my parent's care and being sexually assaulted - maybe it was just too intense of a statement for them...

  5. @Jordanna - Congrats! I think your admittance to a great program really speaks to the field of social work - excelling in the face of adversity (adversity as defined by a society that expects perfection even though being a human means a yin and yang of experience) - that's what it's all about! rock on!
