  1. Thanks! I just saw online that all offers are made by mail, but I still think I would've received an email.
  2. Has anyone who interviewed at CMU, heard yet? Had a nice convo a couple of weeks ago and was put in touch with current students, but haven't heard a thing. I'm out of town so I can't check my mail, but I assumed I would get an email either way as to a change in my status. I'm pretty anxious to hear.
  3. Congratulations everyone on the interviews! Those are a lot of interviews so I'm in talented company. Have not heard anything on my end except for the rejection from Michener. Still haven't received snail mail from Carnegie Mellon, but I guess Yale and NYU are not happening for me this year. I really thought I had a great application. I don't know if it's 'cause I'm still pretty fresh out of school by grad school standards, or what, but I'm pretty bummed out this being my third year applying. Really feel like my applications are getting stronger year to year so I was hoping to at least get interviewed this year. Still waiting on Brown, Iowa (which is usually later), and Columbia if anyone has heard. Trying to keep my head up high. Good luck everyone!
  4. Still nothing here. Like NOTHING at all. Are there any schools that don't have interviews? Maybe it'll be next week. That's what I'm hoping.
  5. Wow! To get an interview at Hunter is awesome! LOVE both of those writers. Hunter's very happy to have them. The Flick and An Octoroon are two of my favorite plays. Congrats on O'Neill! Second year applying so hopefully next year O'Neill will happen for me. I did get my final rejection from Michener which I suspected at this point. Haven't heard from anyone else which is worrying me, but maybe it's still kinda early. I'm waiting on Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, NYU, Yale, Brown, and Iowa if anyone has heard. Any news on Columbia's program now that it's under new leadership? I've gotten some financial assessment emails from them, but I'm pretty sure they did that last year too and I didn't get an interview.
  6. Congrats on your interviews! Sounds great. Google Hangouts/Skype interviews have always been tricky for me. Did they bring up Michener at all? I guess if they have 12 finalists I'm out of the running. Still haven't heard from anyone else although I should be getting my O'Neill rejecting sooner, or later. It stinks 'cause that's the same play I've been sending to most of the grad schools, but oh well. I would say anytime someone leaves a note at the bottom it's not common practice. I would say that's a really positive, special thing! Also applied to NYU, Carnegie Mellon, and Columbia if anyone has word on those schools as well. 1 down, 6 to go!
  7. Also, what are some things people are looking to do during the summer months? I'm always interested in opps like O'Neill, Last Frontier, etc, etc, etc. I've applied to all of them, but any other opportunities for writers/dramaturg/playwright interested in garnering some more directing experience opportunities anyone know of?
  8. Congrats! Did you apply to Michener, or T&D?
  9. Yes! That's the address to use. Fingers crossed!
  10. So glad you brought that CMU question up. I finished out the application a week ago and felt something was missing which were my transcripts. My alma mater's on break right now, but when I contacted the person's name to contact with admissions questions he said it's okay if they arrive after the application. He told me to mail them to him and not the 5000 Forbes address on the side of the page. Not quite sure the exact mailing address, but my school is sending him electronic official transcripts to his email. It really depends on the system your former institution uses. Hope this helps! Luckily, I've found schools to be understanding in terms of getting materials in the mail during this busy time.
  11. Sounds great! Thank you so much for the info. I would like to visit if given the chance. I would ideally like to go to school in a city with a theatre scene, but I've heard good things about Pittsburgh.
  12. Got out a few of my applications including Yale. I think the prejudice against Final Draft is kinda strange. I'm a theatre person through and through, but I love using Final Draft and feel like I've been able to focus on my writing versus spending a lot of time on formatting Word. It's a personal choice as far as I'm concerned. Applying to the usual suspects minus Juilliard and with Carnegie Mellon thrown into the mix. I've heard some really great things about that program and the plays coming out of there. Anyone have additional details on CMU? Would appreciate it. I also find the personal statements difficult to write more than ever. Mine are pretty short, but I feel like I get my pov across better than I have in the past. Hopefully less is okay. As far as Northwestern goes, I've known people who've gone there who told me they wished they would have waited to go somewhere else. With that said, it has great resources and it's alumni are doing great things. I was going to apply until I heard from these recent grads.
  13. Congrats everyone on their acceptances and interviews! I've been quite busy this past week so haven't been able to frequent this board as much. Still waiting to hear from Columbia, Iowa, NYU, and Juilliard and not losing hope yet. Especially because some schools have rolling status updates so I'm not gonna give up hope! What led me to apply to NYU was the faculty. My friends who've gone there have had Suzan Lori-Parks, Lucy Thurber, etc. Also, everyone meets with The Public's literary team one on one at the end of their time in the program from what they've told me. I do agree I wish there were more performance opps. The NYU Grad program does perform new plays, but by established writers like Lucas Hnath even though there's a grad program right there. I'm still incredibly interested and thank you for the info! As far as summer things go, I got a rejection from Great Plains and a couple of script solicitations from others which I don't really want to say, because I don't want to jinx anything. I'm hoping something comes through. I have heard AMAZING things about Sewanee and Paula Vogel's teaching there so it's worth a shot. Would have applied to Last Frontier, but I thought I had a conflict during that time and decided not to and then just found out I could have applied anyway. Anyone done Kenyon? I'm not in NY right now, but I've heard not the best things about Placebo. I love Carrie Coon and I would see it for her, but the play description seems a little uninteresting to me. I do have to say that I'm happy that after The Flick and Mr. Burns that Playwrights Horizons just does the work they want and actually takes some risks that cause debates and may alienate audiences. I love that, but I've heard not so great things about this production. Also, this forum is such a great resource and everyone is so supportive! I don't know what I would have done without this group! The Official Playwrights of Facebook group is kind of depressing sometimes. A lot of petty fighting over petty things.
  14. SeaLou: I've been wondering the same thing about the staggering of interviews. I mean, if I were running a program I would contact everyone at once for everything: interview requests, rejections, but it's still hard for me to accept rejection when I haven't actually heard a thing from the school yet. What are the other schools your waiting on that contacted for interviews? So, it looks like Columbia and Yale are out for me if they contacted people for interviews already. Only waiting on Juilliard, Iowa, and NYU. So disappointing. I felt like my applications were far and away much stronger than the ones I sent last year. I've been working on my materials since May. I guess I should start working on next year's batch right now hahahahahahahaha. I'm actually crying!
  15. No news for me yet. 2 down, 5 to go. I know someone who got an interview at Columbia, but still haven't heard and my status hasn't changed. It's not over until it's over, right? For Yale, I know directors have heard of their acceptances and actors have heard about callbacks, but that's a very different system. Does anyone have any deets about the Columbia program since it's now being headed by David Henry Hwang? I know there are some strong opinions about the program, but I assume it changes with the transitioning from one head of the program to another. I've met him and he's a super nice guy with really interesting takes on the form which led me to apply again this year. Also, anyone seen any great productions lately? I have to admit, I've been a bit of a hermit working on my writing this year and haven't seen a lot at all. mcw98, that's awesome you were the finalist for the Jerome as well as making it to the second round of Juilliard. When did you hear about your status last year?
