Not sure if anyone on this thread brought this one up yet, but one thing I have to vent from my recent experience - groups of people walking VERY SLOWLY and taking over the entire sidewalk. And CLEARLY they noticed that someone walking behind them is in a bit of hurry, and could have moved over to one side to let me through. But nope, they decide to continue on sluggishly and I eventually had to step off the sidewalk and run past them, and get off the road before I am smacked by an oncoming car.
 
Some people just don't read cues that well... sigh...

I was just admitted to Harvard..... is this real life? 

You live under a bridge and ask a lot of questions, eating those who answer incorrectly.

Luckily I don't get all the weird psychology questions since I'm mainly applying to Cognitive Science / Linguistics programs. The questions I do get, though...

"Linguistics? OMG my grammar is so bad lololol!" NO YOUR GRAMMAR IS NOT BAD. YOUR ENGLISH TEACHERS WERE JUST HORRIBLE PRESCRIPTIVISTS.
 
"Cognitive Science, what's that? Does it have to do with cogs, like machines?" No...just, no... I actually don't blame people for this one though, it's impossible to tell what Cognitive Science is unless you already know what cognition is, and it's not a very frequent term in daily use...

A bunch of people got acceptance emails to a particular program last night/this morning, and I did not, so I have been trying to accept the fact that I have basically been rejected. Then I get an email from this school with the subject line "Choosing the right graduate program" and for a split second dare to think I've been accepted. Nope, it's just their very poorly timed monthly newsletter.

I just got that email, and my heart stopped for a few seconds!
 
Granted, I don't think my department has made any announcements yet, but it was still a disappointment.  Hoping you are just getting a late acceptance!

Hahaha I am in this exact position! I came on this thread specifically to mention that email.
A couple people got acceptances about a week ago (and that's pretty much all the acceptances my program does), so I'm thinking that is an unofficial reject for me (or I guess it could be a waitlist)... but MAN that is so cruel if we got rejected and they're still sending us these glorious info emails. "Choosing the right graduate program... that isn't ours"

I had an interview with UPenn in 2009. I'm still waiting to hear back. Never give up hope!

I have my first on-campus interview on Friday, at Brown. Wish me luck

So this is probably weird, but I was freaking out today over an MIT interview, so I baked a loaf of bread.
 
Pros:
Measuring ingredients is really relaxing It's cheaper than buying bread Nothing cures anxiety like a carb binge My anxiety manifests itself in loaves of fresh, warm bread  
Cons:
Can anyone even actually eat this much bread My kitchen is seriously going to be flooded with loaves of bread by April 15th Seriously, does anyone want some free bread

Awesome!! I sent him an email today explaining my situation, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I could definitely make that day (no Wednesday classes!), so this should work out.  I'll PM you if I end up going the 18th as well--it would be great to meet you (and to not be the only one there haha)!

Oh hey, so if you were still thinking of trying to go to Maryland on a different day, Jeff Lidz told me that there's another prospective student who can't make it and is going Wednesday, Feb 18th. I'm going to try to go that day as well, so if you wanted to do that there could be three of us

I had a phone interview with my POI and the Grad Director at one of my top choices this afternoon.  After the interview I sent a quick thank you note via email to both, and my POI replied with "Great talking with you!  More soon : )"

I just got into Berkeley I can't even process what's happening now ahhh what?! I don't even know how to react I was totally not expecting this!!
