I felt the same way. I received my letter three days ago. However, I was sitting outside waiting for the mail person and I watched him put a brown envelope in my neighbor's mailbox and then skip my house. I stopped him and asked about the mail but he said there was nothing for my house. I went and knocked on my neighbor's door and there was no answer. So I looked in their mailbox and that brown envelope was my letter from SSHRC. So mistakes do happen. I definitely felt horrible going through my neighbor's mailbox but I just knew it was my letter. I also saw my neighbor the next day and told him what I did. LOL. 

I just received news from Waterloo that I won a SSHRC fellowship! The email came at 3:45 pm. 

Congrats! Yay! What a wait! I had a little cry already around lunch preparing for defeat. LOL.

CONGRATULATIONS!  I got the same email!!!  After two years of rejections, I'm in shock!

Okay I sent an email to my financial aid person and just said FYI the SSHRC portal is supposed to be open to institutions and letters are supposed to go in the mail by today.  If she replies, I will let you all know.  I feel if it's a negative result, they won't say and will let me get the snail mail but if it's good news they will want to tell me. Just speculation on my part, though.
 

Another point on the interminable waiting (and the potential benefits of a set annual day for results): I am totally getting nothing done on the actual work I'm supposed to be doing as a 'productive scholar'....literally haven't written anything in the past week. If I knew exactly when the results were coming, I'd have 2 thesis chapters done by now! :(

This is purely an off my chest comment, but I really don’t understand why they can’t just pick an official day they release the results and stick to it. They say the end of April anyways so why not just say April 30 (and actually release them on April 30) and we all won’t be wondering if today’s the day starting halfway through the month. Anxiety and stress related things are known issues in grad students so I don’t really understand why they couldn’t make the whole situation a little less precarious. Then we could more easily put it out of our minds until the official day. It’s such a small thing that doesn’t seem like it would be hard to implement, and it would make such a big difference... for my anxiety at least. And then an online portal for everyone. Just pop the results in there April 30.

That's an excellent plan. I caved, and emailed the faculty of graduate studies at my institution and their response was that they are still awaiting the results. Now I have to resist the urge to email them every hour asking "What about now?"

I just cracked and email SSHRC about when they will be mailing letters - doubt they will respond until Monday but..... I had to do it!  I'll keep you all posted. 

Don't feel so bad. You honestly can't control how your external reader will react (I also read your post on reddit). I'm a second year PhD and my advisor said he did not recommend a specific prof I was interested in for my committee because he is really critical and difficult. He would not have known this if that professor didn't invite him to his home university to help review one of his upcoming books. So I feel like I am dodging a bullet. It's not always a lack of skill, but sometimes problematic people. Work super hard this month and I'm sure everything will work out. ❤️

It takes an interesting set of mental gymnastics to try to anonymously doxx someone for online bullying. Hopefully you didn't sprain anything.

I have had enough of the bullying by @Telkanuru, @Sigaba, and others. They have been condescending and abusive and are doing a disservice to the applicants just trying to get advice.


 
I can’t imagine that the institutions where these bullies study would in any way condone what they have been doing. I have decided to make an example of Telkanuru. Therefore, I have emailed the following people at Brown - Amy Remensnyder, Robert Self and Christina Paxson about the abuse with relevant links.

 
If there is any more bullying, I will notify other institutions about the despicable behavior of their graduate students. Sigaba and the others, you have been warned.

I don't know if you actually did this or if this is a joke, but if you're for real, this is extremely childish. If you don't like someone's behavior on a web forum, you can complain to the moderators or simply stop reading.
