  1. I had a 3.8 ugrad GPA, graduated in 2014, did a lot of volunteering in ugrad and one year of americorps. i would definitely recommend waiting a year or two after graduating to apply it makes you much more competitive and gives you good experience and perspective. i also think what helps is having a very clear direction and population you want to work with. all of my volunteer and work experience was generally in the same area, so i think that helped a lot too. they want to know you know the field and have a clear path. of course you don't have to stick to the same population, but they want to know you know why you're here. i also recommend going to their info sessions and stuff! really helpful.

congrats @Sbjj0701!!! i'm so excited to start.

  2. I have a question about Berekeley. I got an email from the Social Welfare department about my acceptance (yay) and in the letter it said that 'official notification of admission to the University will follow shortly from the graduate division.' I was admitted Friday morning, and now it's Wednesday morning. I'm wondering how long 'shortly' is? When should I expect word from the university at large? Thanks

I heard from SJSU last night that I have been accepted into their Online Program.  Was really hoping to get into the campus program.  They need me to let them know within two weeks about my decision.  I guess this means that they have already notified those in the campus program?  I'm guessing.  I wrote a really good statement, I have a 4.0 GPA and about 1700 hours of volunteer/internship experience.  I guess there must be alot of exceptional candidates out there!!!!!!!

Omg that's awesome! Congratulations! How did they notify you - via email? I'm hoping to hear back soon ugh.

The worst!! Yea I'm trying to be optimistic, but might actually go into the week of the 15th...

did you apply anywhere else? I just applied to Cal, SF State (who take notoriously long to reply) and San Jose State (I have NOOO idea about there response time) so I'm in it for the long haul lol.

Anyone else hear from Cal? Saw someone rejected, but no yet heard of acceptances. Jealous of all you guys with some answers already...

waiting from Berkeley too! They said we should be hearing around March 15. So I"m thinking late next week things will start to roll out.

  6. Hey! I got the email about the online option and checked that I would be interested in both. I live in San Francisco, so the thought of commuting to SJ was doable, but I wasn't thrilled about it. I'm also hoping that by saying I'm interested in both I up my chances of getting in to either ;)

    What about yall?

  7. would it be appropriate to mention things specifically about the school in my SOP? for example, "i'm interested in the clinical track, and i know UC Berkeley has a post MSW program with their CAPS program. i would love to pursue that as i'm especially interested in mental health on college campuses"

    something along those lines? thanks

  8. I have a specific question about the UC Berkeley application. For the analytical question, how specific should we get? For example, one of the recommendations I am making is for mental health services on university campuses to have "ample drop in hours." Should I be more specific or is that description sufficient? They ask about recommendations and operationalizing those recommendations, so I want to know what those look like. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
