Three quarters of the story would be the student staring blankly at an unresponsive email account.

They absolutely do peruse the forums. Every hour. Every day. They're not busy, you know.

Right! :-)
I'm really sorry you didn't get in your #1 school... But going to school in another city can be a really wonderful -and exciting- experience. (Speaking from experience

2015hopeful got a reaction from kats in 2015 Canadian SLP Thread!
Congratulations kats!! So happy for you!
What do you think made a difference for you? I'm already trying to think about what I could do to make my application more competitive if I don't get in anywhere this year.

2015hopeful reacted to the_bee's_knees in SLP Interviews! What are they like?
I found this great website for getting in the zone for interviews.

Hope everyone finds it as helpful as I did!

Maybe it could be worded different, but I'm referring to what is under the umbrella of language:
Form:
Syntax, morphology, phonology
Content:
Semantics
Use:
Pragmatics
The wording of interview questions could also be tricky too!
This is a random question not really pertaining to interviews, but was anyone else forced to learn the exact word-by-word ASHA definition of language?

Kinda random, but I'd just like to say that the friendliness/helpfulness displayed in this forum makes me even more excited to work amongst you guys in this field. March is slowly creeping up on us so good luck to all of you! May you all get into at least one school!

I'm also a 2nd time applicant now. I got rejected from my first choice last year took the classes, got A's and got in this year. Taking the classes on my own was actually cheaper -I took them at USU online - cheap and flexible hours (I'm also a returning student with a family, so it ended up working out better this way). If you don't get in, take the classes and kick some major butt to show them you can do it.

OTs have a very similar outlook and pay to SLP. It is also really competitive, but I would say a bit less so than SLP, in some ways. I applied to 3 schools for SLP and 3 for OT. For those schools OT acceptance rates are like 6%-11% and SLP are 9%-13%. Despite that, it seems like lower GPAs are accepted for OT. McMaster did interviews last year for people over 3.5 GPA, I think.
CDA is different. The job outlook is pretty good, but it isn't a nation-wide career yet. I don't think it's very common to see CDAs outside of Ontario and Alberta. They make around $20/hour.
OT applications were due in January. I think some CDA programs are still open, but they've started acceptances already. And backups are great, but it's worth working on getting into SLP for a few years, if it's what you really want.
