  2. I agree with you, GPA is not the only thing that guarantees MSW admission. Your personal statement, CV and reference are all counting towards the admission decision. One of my relatives was in the admission panel last year and she said GPA only weighs about 30 percent in students' application.
  3. Try something like supportive housing supervisor or Day program supervisor or social worker in LTC .....your PSW experience and BSW degree is a perfect combination..
  4. Donot get discouraged, York is an excellent school! I have friends did their placement in hospitals and government agencies without using any personal connections. Who knows...
  5. Interview date confirmed on March 23rd. Driving all way from Welland to Kingston now!
  6. Getting ready for Medical School interviews Soon I have only one interview in Canada (Queens), six interviews in States. My status : Result: Invite Time Stamp: 4:27pm Interview Date: TBD GPA: BSW (3.74) MSW(4.0) Year: MSW Completed MCAT: 130/128/130/130 ECs: Three years clinical social worker/educator experience in hospitals , founder of an ethnic focused mental health network. 4 publications, International conferences Geography: OOP Good Luck Doctors !!
  7. I applied to both schools this year. My background is a medical social worker and I am in Canada now.
  8. Everyone has a purpose in life…a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.  – ---Deepak Chopra

  9. I was 23 when i completed my MSW -3 Opps.... three people voted down on this I don't blame you and I indeed feel for you, I was kind unnerved after one of my MSW classmates told me that she can't go to Vegas because she has not reached legal drinking age yet
  10. nicoleMSW, always believe in yourself!! When I applied MSW in 2013, my GPA was only 3.8 (in a 4.3 scale), had no work experience, no research experience, and no strong references. Yet, I was accepted to all three universities in Toronto. Miracles happen all the time as long as you have a faith in yourself
  11. York received over six hundreds applications for two years program... the chance of getting in is less than four percent.... Economy is tough now and free tuition could mean a lot to students.
  12. I bet 50 dollars on U of T sends out first round offer before Feb 15th
  13. the actual letter via snail mail I think my ROSI status updated after I got the letter.
  14. This is not my offer letter, I got my offer on Feb 21......
  15. unfortunately U of T didn't offer me any money at that time not even my 180 dollar application fee..... lol
  16. To all York applicants, if you receive the above email in the next two weeks , congratulations !!! if you get the email below, don't worry, you will still have a chance get off from the waitlist until August 31!! Dear MSW Applicant: You have been recommended for admission into our full-time Advanced Standing MSW program @ York University but unfortunately, we do not have a spot for you at this time. We have put you on a wait-list. Please note that if a spot does open up for you, your admission offer will come with a $9000 funding package. If you would like to decline your spot on the wait-list, please email poscae@yorku.ca we will remove your name. Unless you decline, you will stay on our wait-list until either a spot is offered to you or until August 31, 2015. Unfortunately, we're unable to answer queries regarding when, or if, you will be offered admission. Thank you again for your interest in our MSW program. Cheers, ************************************************
  17. Do you want to do your PHD in social work or other related fields ( sociology, philosophy, education, JD etc... ) I would suggest you go to u of t because of its international reputation ( especially if you apply for schools in States) and better research funding.
  18. I don't know the exact number but I heard that you can always transfer to part-time program once you get in. I applied for both part-time and full-time but got into the full-time only.
  19. For one year program, about 80 percent of my peers had at least two years of work experience. For one year part-time program, 100 percent of them worked full time while attending the school ( you don't get the funding package if you are in the part-time program ).
  20. Around the last week of March...for the two years program
  21. The first round acceptance should be on Feb 10th to 12th depending on the volume of this year's applications. You will receive an email from the admission office if you are accepted or on the wait list.. the second wave of acceptance is between April and June after some students declined their offers, in such case, the school will call you and let you know that you are off from the wait list. Good Luck!!
  22. The graduate office will call you to confirm!! Ryerson sends out offers from mid of March until the end of April... but that was in 2014 when I applied. Things may have been changed since.
