It might be worth reaching out to those schools. If they have waitlists and if you are on a waitlist, it is very possible to be offered admission after the April 15th deadline.

Thank you much! From what I was told, it seems that I'm an alternate for a particular sub-field in the department, so I believe I'm waiting for one or two specific people to accept or decline. I'm trying to stay hopeful but also realistic.

Good luck to everyone else who is waiting to hear!

I'm probably at an 8 as well. 3 rejections and the final school has me as an alternate. I'm really trying to send telepathic messages to that one person who was accepted ahead of me, regardless of what their decision is, just so I can have an answer (although, I'd obviously love for them to accept a wonderful offer elsewhere so I could get in).

Oh man, I clearly don't belong in this forum but I saw this when looking at Activity. I find it hilarious because haven't there been studies done that show that red is a crazy stressful color (when grading or correcting papers) and that green is the most calming and best color to make corrections in??
Maybe dream university was concerned about your stress levels.

Follow these steps after doing w/e you have to do for the day.

    1. Go for a nice long walk (3+ miles).

    2. Make yourself a nice dinner.

    3. Pour yourself a glass of your favorite wine (beer, scotch, tequila, w/e)

HA, only once BUT it came after I spent approximately 2 hours hunting down every single unread email to read and/or delete so that if I got a new email it would say "Inbox (1)" rather than "Inbox (105)".

Wow.  I really hope my children do not grow up to be as self-centered and entitled as you are coming off here.  Your mother only has a high school education?  Your family doesn't have university educations?  So CLEARLY they have absolutely no idea what you are going through, or what stress means, or how to plan for the future, or any those things.  Your mother has devoted her life to raising you but obviously she has no possible insight into your situation because she's just an uneducated hick from Wyoming.  I sincerely hope your mother and other family members never become aware of your derision for them and their accomplishments.  And FYI, a university education can't teach class, which you've clear demonstrated here.

Hoping someone else can offer something up since  this is something I'm worrying about as well. I have an almost certain rejection from one place I applied and I'm starting to see interviews going out for another program.
I also only applied to a lowish number (4) because I have very specific research interests and those places were the only places that matched those interests. I'm starting to become concerned that I've bottle-necked myself.
I was also under the impression that it would seem better to be able to put forth a proposal; however, my research interests are quite a bit outside everyone elses' in these threads.
Good luck with the remainder of your applications!

ETA- just saw your post. With the GRE score, most people acknowledge that it is not a good indicator of your abilities as a researcher but some institutions and departments (especially those who get a lot of apps) will most definitely use that to cut the deck and thin out the applications.  That score is quite low for someone in STEM and immediately stands out to me. Now, of course you can get into a program with those GRE scores, just like it is possible to get into a program with a lower GPA, but it definitely isn't helping.

Marshall reacted to 4eyes in Dressing for interviews
Part of the appeal of not being a business, med, or law student is that your physical appearance/ fashion choices normatively shouldn't (and hopefully don't) affect your interview game. On a daily basis, grad students and post docs show up to lab in t-shirts, hoodies, and jeans. Of course, interviews are "exceptional" in some respects, but a large part of the reason why interviewees dress up is because they don't want to be the under-dressed odd one out -- it's more game theory than it is rational. No matter what you look like, at the end of the day, you should feel comfortable with however you chose to dress and however you choose to do your hair/ make-up (especially women), simply because the onus is on other people to judge you for who you are and not how you look.
Re: @kokobanana 's advice on wearing "non-sexy" make-up: I don't think this is entirely fair -- wear however much or however little make-up you feel is appropriate, whether or not people think you look sexy. (chances are you're all an incredibly sexy bunch regardless, and your make-up choices won't change that). I am a bit tired of women being told to dress attractively but not enticingly -- you shouldn't be made to feel you were unprofessionally dressed just because someone thought you looked hot.
Also re: advice that "sneakers look out of place" -- this is, in my experience, untrue. Sneakers are great for traversing campus and probably look totally fine with whatever you're wearing.
The dress-up game is one more way in which international minorities, women, and less privileged students are made to feel inadequate for reasons which have absolutely nothing to do with genuine merit -- so dress however you want to, and own it. No serious scientist is going to look at you funny 'cause you wore nikes instead of dress shoes. Be understanding and sensitive to your peers, regardless of how they look, and don't make people feel out of place come interview weekend just because they didn't choose to perpetuate the power and class stereotypes which make prestigious academic institutions so homogenous in the first place.

No, not necessarily.  It's actually still pretty early for invites, but it also depends on the program.  Some do rolling invites, some haven't even begun to send out invites yet.  So, while it is hard to do, I wouldn't worry too much.  After the new year is when they really start to send them out.

Don't tell my in-laws that it isn't a delay in real life! It's the only excuse they'll except for why we aren't popping children out. Apparently "we aren't sure we want kids" isn't possible.
