mems2019 reacted to Lavaniya in HGSE 2019
I was offered 10K in work study and 20K in unsubsidized loans. HGSE was a dream, and I truly (apparently, naively) hoped they were a little more generous when it came to financial aid, but when it comes down to it, I just can’t stomach taking on 80K in debt (which would be conservative given relocation costs, housing, and childcare). I feel much better about doing my program in state at UT Austin and leaving with very little, if any, debt, even though it’s obviously not Harvard.
Congratulations and good luck to everyone who can make it to HGSE!

You definitely deserve a spot in the class. I can identify with you, as I also had superior stats compared to others both academically and professionally. But they refused to overlook that one mistake from undergrad (top 3 in country in rankings too). Nothing else is a possibility. They are only “holistic” to a degree.

I think this is spot on. The programs are for very different ends.

I’m trying not to do that lol.I just want to know! If I don’t hear anything by Feb 7th the latest , I’m throwing in the towel. But I’m sure it has to be next week based on the information in the groups from previous years. Also, they can’t give candidates less than 2 weeks notice.

It's been so quiet all week! This should be the most intense notification period!

Sums it up fairly well. I'm basically at the point I don't care anymore. I'm acting like I didn't get it (interviewing for jobs, waiting to hear back from other fellowships, etc). Seems easiest that way. This way, if I get rejected I can tell myself that I only wanted a Fulbright on principle anyways
That being said, congrats to you folks who have been lucky enough to find out your status. Even if you weren't selected, you can still put finalist on your resume and at the very least, you're not playing the waiting game anymore.

So...do y'all think we should get a lot of notifications today? My country likely won't notify for at least two or three more weeks, but the wait is a lot easier when I see y'all getting good news.

I think the Fulbright people must have all just decided to take spring break this week....

Is there anyone out there waiting for Eurasia? (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine) Do y'all know whether any of those do interviews?
