You're a graduate student. The advisor shouldn't have to do the legwork for you.

I have my guesses why they want an electronic copy. Sorry you didn't get the affirmation a special snowflake should get.

Repeat, not a good idea to go to a Ph.D. program without funding. Not a good idea to think you can leverage it into funding down the line.

Why are you telling us a different story than what you're telling the other professor? Seems as if "come up with a research idea" has morphed into publishing multiple papers in your first year.
Also, sorry you didn't get the affirmation you clearly seem to think you deserve.

Cannot recommend this program to anyone. The several I know who went there took on a lot of debt and took a job where the degree didn't matter. A couple of those are now in another master's program.

Be wary of a new doctoral program, especially in a state that will have budget issues with the oil boom turning into a bust. Also, the requirements for a teaching assistant seem a little steep, since you need letters attesting to your teaching skills and write a statement of your teaching philosophy. The program is putting the cart before the horse there.

Good luck in your quest to have the board avoid reality. I'm sure you'll have a fine career as a barista.

In all for people attending grad school, if they are prepared. "Chance me" and "what should my paper be about" threads highlight weaknesses of some potential graduate students who don't possess the basic skills needed to find these answers on their own.
You clearly haven't read my posts, I provide valuable help. I'm trying to push potential grad students to not rely on being spoon-fed.

It doesn't matter if you were a volunteer. It doesn't matter if you have to work to support yourself. It doesn't matter what others are doing or what they told you. What matters is you need to step up and be a productive member of a team and not quit. You need to take responsibility for your own life.

You'd be "poor" in Philadelphia if you have 2 kids and no savings. If you aren't a citizen, or the kids aren't, you won't qualify for social services such Medicaid or SNAP (food subsidy). Medical insurance alone will ever expensive. Philadelphia is an expensive city to live in, especially if you want to live in a decent area and apartment.

The writing sample probably is one of the last things departments look at. Grades, GRE scores, LORs, and the statement of purpose have more weight.

Unless you've been offered a position, I wouldn't count on it. As for qualifications for being a TA, it can range from having a pulse to being able to teach the class of you had to.

For personal enrichment, I'd find graduate-level reading lists and skip paying tuition for a MA that likely would not help down the road.

I don't know what to tell anyone if they think GPA and GRE scores aren't the first items reviewed. Your file may not even be read if you don't make the cutoff.
    Also, master's is not capitalized.

A good deal of anxiety exhibited by the OP and other thread-starters in this forum can be avoided by not thinking every request from a professor means the professor is out to get them.

Wake Forest's deadline was set by that program. Programs are free to set their own deadlines regarding when to send out offers. The April 15 resolution only applies to when students have to accept funding offers.
