dancedementia got a reaction from blacklab155 in MS/MA in mental health counseling or MSW?
Feel free to PM me. I started in MSW and switched to MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and can speak broadly to what's going on in those areas. I noticed you were also in CO - one thing to think about is where you want to practice long-term. In some states, social workers have much more power than counselors.

I feel this so much. I've never been a patient person, but this is just next level. This is now my most visited site on my browser lol.

Hiiii! I'll PM you about CHC specifically too since I just did their interview
In general they are assessing for "fit" in terms of their idea of what makes a good clinician. So expect questions about why their program, what are your views on mental health, what theory speaks to you, what kinds of populations you want to work with or believe are underserved, what kind of prac experiences do you want, and what you want to do in the future. There will be some research questions but they do want to weed out the folks who are all-in on research as that would not be a good fit. So emphasize that you want to have the well rounded experience of research, and clinical, and supervision, and teaching, and program design/eval, etc.

The "short list" is the list of folks that they are considering bringing in for an interview and/or admitting (I'm not sure how I/O does interviewing). Basically, you're under consideration  This is good!

If anyone applied to Springfield's PsyD, I heard back from my admissions counselor that invites will be extended the "first week of February". Interview dates are 2/15 or 2/22.

I was really nervous before, but I'm actually sort of calmed down now because I really like the program I got into!

It's definitely a gamble. There may also be difficulty at the beginning while the program is trying to establish credibility. At the same time, serious programs are usually "on their best behavior" so to speak while going through the self-study process. Also, programs can get accreditation on contingency before any class graduates. In order to get full accreditation status, programs do need to have outcome data. And APPIC now doesn't allow students from unaccredited programs to apply for APA accredited internships. So, if you are interested in a program seeking accreditation, you want to do a little more homework and maybe study the handbook and look at course outlines a bit more closely than with more established programs.
Also, make sure the program is actually looking for accreditation. I know someone in a program that has said they are applying for accreditation and they haven't actually taken steps for several years. This person is in a blind now because the program was just dishonestly stringing students along.

Aww  UTSW is notoriously hard to get into across the board. I actually interviewed there many years ago for their masters of nutrition program (long story) and the interview process was brutal - they chewed me up and spit me out haha. I know this sounds like a "sour grapes" situation but fingers crossed you hear some good news soon!

Another Friday, another week of no interview invites. Anxiety central over here. One of my schools told me it never received my GRE scores -___-;;  How is everyone else holding up?

I was in a similar boat - applied mainly to clinical programs, but had two counseling programs on my radar since I was a good research match with POIs. You might get a question about "why counseling psychology specifically", but otherwise the questions will be very similar - e.g. "why our program", "what are your research interests", etc.

PsyD programs tend to interview later, so don't give up hope! I have a friend who applied to Widener and she hasn't heard back yet either. Fingers crossed for us all!

I basically brute forced all of Magoosh's math problems a week before the exam, haha. I didn't study at all for verbal or writing. My scores were 168V / 163Q / 5.5AW. My starting scores were in the mid-150's so I was very happy. The GRE questions felt much easier than Magoosh's, so I had a boost of confidence during the exam which definitely helped with my performance.

Drexel is stressing me out so much right now! The results page shows that they called all their interviewees at this same week last year, so I've been keeping my phone next to me at all times. Top choice program

Hi all! Brand new to this site... and I don't know honestly if I'm glad to have found it haha since now I'm OBSESSED.
Anyway, I applied to 3 programs for a Pysch/Neuro PHD: U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Baylor, and UChicago. I have already gotten invites to U of I and Baylor! YAY!!! But Chicago, to this point, is my first choice, and there's been nothing but crickets.... Has anyone heard anything?
