Seriously, thats one of the main reasons why I carry a purse. I'm paranoid that its going to pop out and break. I bet Apple is going to make this a feature somehow

*hugs* you're allowed to feel sad about this! Take some time to process.
We're back in the lab full-time tomorrow. I've been watching football all afternoon. Great combination!

A lot of people don't understand the pain of losing a pet. That isn't a small life thing. I'm sure your dog understand that you weren't able to be there. Take care of yourself.

Exactly! I know I'm condition to assume everything is a lie but its a lot more disappointing when there is a tangible reminder of our fragile existence

Haha yea that happened to me with Five Guys. We got some to go before leaving on a trip and somehow a week later when I got in my car for the first time since we left it still smelled like Five Guys. So I drove to Five Guys again. Must be a marketing strategy...

Need Coffee in an IV got a reaction from hopefulPhD2017 in Post Interview Rejection
It wasn't interviews exactly but when I met/talked over the phone with several POI I could tell that I wasn't going to be accepted. I was rejected by four schools. Two I never received positive reassurance or negative so those were very big question marks. Two other schools gave me their reasons. The main reasons were lack of fit (didn't have enough history classes) or they seemed less than impressed by me (they said they prefer their students to have several years of working experience, I had collectively 3ish-4 but I was applying as an undergrad) . Interviews aren't common compared to other fields but the more correspondence I received from a school were the ones I was accepted into.

I would wait until its been a week that she said she would contact you. If she doesn't be then, I think its very reasonable to email her. I would say something like "Professor Awesomepants, I enjoyed our interview and look forward to possible future correspondence and the opportunity to join the department/lab/etc. If there is anything else I could provide please let me know. I'm trying to get my calendar in order so I can avoid conflicts, and would enjoy a chance to visit. Happy Holidays. Sincerely, ZosoPage". Basically what @fadedfigures said!

First congrats, thats awesome! I think that they will appreciate you not wasting anyones time if you really think you won't end up attending that school. I would say something along the lines like "Dear Prof. Mittens, I greatly appreciate the opportunity of being interviewed and exploring the fluffy department. I admire and wish great success for the department in coming years. Unfortunately, I will be unable to accept your interview due to other commitments. Sincerely, pupperoni". I don't think its necessary to say you have to many interviews and decided you aren't feeling the department. I think brief, polite, and sincere correspondence will be okay. If they press you for a reason, I think it will be find that you have conflicting obligations/interviews and leave it at that. Hope I helped, good luck.

Thats great! I'm happy you are getting the help you need. It shows that you have a supportive department and that makes everything easier. Remember you can vent on here anytime!

I'm very sorry that this semester didn't go as planned! I have a speech impediment and my bf has an autoimmune illness too. So you aren't alone and while I can't completely understand since I'm not you, I can kinda relate. I know expressing your problems will be difficult but I think that is the only way you can get over this hump. Maybe go to the disability office and have a couple meetings to come up with a game plan? Then email your chair/head of department to see if they can come by so they can also be a part of plan? Then with your permission have the chair privately discuss this with your upcoming professors and maybe talk to your new professors after the first day of class to be on the same page? This way it doesn't look like you are trying to make excuses? Idk if this helped but I wish you good luck!

I don't think it will affect you as long as you don't panic. I know easier said than done. Like Anka suggested maybe retake the course? But only after you are out of academic probation. Is it possible to take a lighter load so that way you can focus on those courses and get the highest grade possible? If you are worried about this grade maybe bring it up to the professor in charge of that lab. Maybe say something like this "I unfortunately received a C in X course. I have planned to do Q, Y, Z to improve my grades and overall time management.  I am greatly interested in being a part of your lab, would this grade affect your decision? If so, what would you suggest for me to improve/make you feel comfortable in allowing me to be part of your lab". That way it shows that you take them and their advice sersiuosly, and you have thought and plan things out. Idk if this helped but I hope so!

If anyone is interested Bad Feminist: Essays by Roxane Gay hasn't been a disappointment! I like her style and I find her observations interesting. Also since we are all in grad school Dear Committee Members by Julie Schumacher is a wonderful read and worth the time.

Particularly since I felt like I did so much work, I know it sounds silly but I really liked seeing those As. I'm a person who loves the finished product instead of the process if that makes any sense?

@hippyscientist Bf and I are planning on relaxing for the most part. But me and an old friend are going to see Cinderella in a month and I'm super excited! I haven't seen her in forever!

Its exactly like that. If I didn't a masters I would be stuck at $10 and part time employment. I'm glad we can relate! I've learned some interesting things but nothing mind blowing. I feel like my electives, the museum education class, and law class will be the most helpful/useful.

I got two grades back. Both As! In my dreaded class, the TAs gave me a 75....well below what other people got. That dropped my grade down from a 92 to an 89.09. But my professor rounded me back up to an 90. So I didn't get screwed over but got close ha. I'm still waiting on one more grade. I like icecream in my coffee but its not my favorite dessert. I like pies and cakes better! I've eaten those mini pies you get at Walmart all the time ha.
@MarineBluePsy Maybe grad school isn't what you want to do? Or is this grad school so bad that its turn you off completely? Don't feel pressured into continuing if you realized how much you dislike it. My bf decided grad school wasn't for him. I'm sorry its been awful!
