Last year it seems like the winners from the cycle heard around the 16th, so I’d forecast this year will be around the same, unfortunately for all of our nerves/ anticipation.

Anyone else just find out that they didn't receive any external scholarships/awards? Don't get me wrong, my program tops everyone up to basically the same amount in terms of funding, but mine is going to come in the from of a TA position. I'm feeling pretty stressed about having to take on a TA position my first semester of my program since it'll be overwhelming enough.
Hey attempted_academic, I understand that can be a super stressful position. I TA’d my first four years of grad school. However, you’re in good company. I know a lot of grad students at UC that, TA at first, and sometimes the whole way through. and while it’s hard, they often make it through, get more practice writing for grants (out of necessity), and have great teaching skills to boot. It’s not ideal, but don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world.

Hi, I am a student majoring in philosophy and politics at the university of hong kong and I am pursuing a career at US, either phd or JD. I haven't committed to either path, journalism interests me as well, that's why I took the master path for this year. As you could tell, I have relatively low interest/ credential in quantitative methods. My choices are listed below
1 Master of political science in Columbia with no thesis; and this year with no phd student, the master student size will be doubled. Though the director of master program said that the ratio of studnet/adviser would remain roughly the same. The project is really expensive but I get to do what I like in political theory and I got access to great job opportunities in NGO or jounalism stuff- placement record ok, I guess? total expense around $ 85000
2 Master of political science with a pre-phd track in NYU. half of the tuition provided, total amount of tuition+personal expenses roughly $60000, also great job opportunities, but less credentials compared to Columbia as in Ivy League, right?
3 MAPSS in Chicago, many teachers I like, great phd placement record- but not in NYC. And attention-related issue seems to be troubling for polisci. total expense roughly $60000 as well.
Thanks guys! I have been struggling with making a decision for so long!!!
Honestly, the NYU option sounds like your best bet. From an global perspective NYU does not have the instant name dropping value of Columbia maybe, but the difference is so negligible and all of their advanced degrees are highly, highly respected and their PhD students get fantastic jobs. I’m doing my PhD in anthropology, and our hiring committee would take both of those PhDs, especially from the right candidate, evenly.

Same, mine shows no updates since Jan 14th. ? I got my rejection last year on May 3rd.
I feel like this one is the toughest because you have the least ability to tell whether you’re still in the game or not

None here! Actually nothing since January 14th it says. Likely In the next week though? I saw a few posts from last year that were from around 4/30.

Hi Evergeen, thanks so much! fingers crossed! There's so few of these fellowships for so many people, I don't know how the whole system doesn't collapse in on itself.
-
The WG double questions is hard! I'm stressing over it myself now.
-
Hi Evergreen,
This is my first year even being exposed to the fellowship, so I'm not sure. But my email said, "If you decide not to take this fellowship, please let us know as soon as possible." So it sounds like they urgently want to offer it to the alternates.

Notified of award at 9am Eastern Time today. Just a heads up on the timeline/ expected date for future applicants.

That's the part I don't understand. How can they reject some applications before the review?
Apparently it’s a multistage review process. First the proposals are reviewed by the independent reviewers, then the high scoring one have to be “pitched” to a higher body for final approval. The ones that don’t make it to that final stage are released once it’s official that they didn’t. It gives them the most time for revisions.

so brutal.
Apparently the proposal review panel is today and tomorrow where they pitch the proposals to the directors. Hopefully no news yet is good news ??.
-
Any word on this one? Emailed them around March 31st and they said ASAP. The wait is brutal.

Any word on this? Fresh off a final round rejection from SSRC and the wait is brutal.

Hi Qinqini,
You should try to glean more funding from them. This is a cashcow program for them, designed to collect coins from promising grad students who haven’t gotten into PhD programs.
they tried to let me in with half funding a few years back, and then when I told them I was accepting a PhD offer, emailed back to cast doubt on the quality of the PhD program, even though it was one of the programs they advertised their students had been admitted to in the past.

Also rejected! Congrats to the winners!

What are the odds today is the day ?
I feel like we have to be careful about expecting precedent based on past years and stressing ourselves out in the process. I don’t even get the same thing done at the same time day to day imagine getting all the folks involved in these awards to do it

Thank you so much for the update! Congratulations!!! I have yet to hear back from Princeton, hoping for some good news next though although not so sure anymore. Best of luck for your remaining apps!
I’m in the same boat!
Rejected: Duke (Officially), Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Chicago, MIT (Presumably)
Interview: Berkeley (No word in over a week so should just add that to the top)
Waiting: Stanford, NYU
Was nice to dream!

@ecy I looked at the results from the past couple of years (2016-2018) and it seems like all interview requests go out on the same date. Also there was only one interview post for 2017 but two acceptances (3 if you count one from the anthropology and middle eastern studies program but that might be a separate thing?). Idk this is driving me insane!!
Ugh I stan that meme so hard. Had an interview at Berkeley and then radio silence which is driving me crazy.
Sitting on one hard reject from Duke, and I am just assuming soft rejects from all the rest.

I still think it's a mistake and it will be revoked or something...but I was accepted to UNC! I...I can't believe it. I thought there was no way. Went there for undergrad and will be thrilled to be back on campus. Go Heels!
Hahaha I know that feeling! Congrats!
Here’s to hoping not *EVERY* Chicago interview has gone out.

It looks like last year Stanford interview invites went out around February 7-9 with acceptances and rejections about a week later.
This wait is pretty killer. Sitting on an interview and a HARD rejection right now, so can’t even judge the gauge of how this whole process will end up

Yea this is definitely an acceptance/award email. I was worried about the ambiguous language but my advisor confirmed as well. Congrats!
