  1. We're all pathetic..haha..how did I make it this far in life?
  2. Who is still refreshing researchnet today? Lol
  3. I vaguely remember it been around noon when people have heard back in.previous years. But I guess it could be any time during the work day. We don't even know the day for sure. This is torture..lol
  4. Yeah...I wish we knew! Although I was told that SSHRC results won't be out until late April. Surprising that NSERC released them so soon.
  5. Oh no...the last modified thing should mean that they've been posted but not released yet? Although they wouldn't update the date to early April if they were going to release them early. So my feeling is that it's still going to be next week sometime. Ugh..I wish they had a fixed date and would just stick to it!
  6. Noooooooooooooo!!!! Why? And when in early April?
  7. Wonderful! Now it means obsessively checking my e-mail and researchnet for 2 days instead of one
  8. Omg! Each day feels like a week. I just want to know. Even if it's a no.
  9. I wish there was a way to know if it's the 30th or the 31st :S That "end of March" timeline isn't helping my countdown.
  10. oh ok..good luck with that. I just declined the U of A offer.
  11. I will let Alberta know tomorrow that I'm declining so hopefully that frees up a spot for you! Strange that Carleton hasn't offered funding. I was under the impression that all Canadian PhDs are funded.
  12. I have the same question as well. Different schools have different deadlines and I'm still waiting to hear from two programs but the deadlines of the other offers are coming up soon. I've already asked for an extension so I don't know how much I can stretch it further. If I accept and then get a better offer a few weeks later, is it acceptable to send an e-mail with an explanation?
  13. I applied to two DPhil programs- Politics (Jan 6th) and Area Studies (Jan 20th). I already heard from Area Studies that they are moving my application to the March deadline so probably won't hear from them for a couple of more months. Last Friday marked 10 weeks for the Politics application but I still haven't heard anything from them :S Not sure what to make out of it. I asked for an extension for all the other offers I have at the moment but I don't have too much time. Hopefully this week there will be some news!!!
  14. As a matter of fact, I did! My McGill package was a lot more competitive. I also sent them U of A's which was equally as good but they didn't even mention it once..hahaha. They have informally agreed to hiking it up to match McGill's but I'm waiting for them to re-send the official letter before I accept.
  15. Certainly! A financial offer like that doesn't really offer much "peace of mind" which arguably, is so important when you're planning to dedicate many years of your life to an intense program and actually try and excel in it. Alas! The things you'd do to follow your passion Are you a current U of T Masters student? Could you please share some more details about the program, especially for PhD students. Thanks a lot!
  16. Yes, I got the official letter late on Friday. In absolutely terms, the funding is better than other schools but it includes tuition which is double of most universities. So what you get in your hand is quite a bit less than what other universities are offering. I have 2 other offers that are considerably better than what Toronto is offering. Not sure what to do now since as it stands, Toronto is my first choice but you can barely survive on what they're offering :S
  17. Yes..This is what I got in the e-mail: "I know I had contacted you earlier about doing Skype interviews, but the Graduate Studies Committee has decided that in order to increase our chances of recruiting our very top-ranked applicants to the doctoral program, we should make a select number of offers that skip that step." I am likely declining this.
  18. Anyone heard back from Toronto? They said they'll send out funding details today but haven't hear anything yet. Also claiming a U of Alberta offer.
  19. Thank you. Just got an informal offer from Toronto too. Literally got into every school other than the one I really wanted to but oh well..can't really complain. Have you heard back from UBC?
  20. I had e-mailed potential supervisors in October/November and the 2 people who could supervise me said they're not taking any new students. So I ended up writing to the program director to find out which professors are taking PhD students because it was a lot of work reaching out to the 2 I did in the first place. I read their publications, tailored my research proposal accordingly, making connections between my topic and their research area and after a week or 2 of doing that, all I got was a blunt "sorry not taking new students." The program director told me straight up that if those 2 profs weren't taking students then it's unlikely that I will receive an offer. I sent the application anyway! It was frustrating because they don't tell you anywhere who is taking on students and who isn't. Had I known a few months before, I probably would've approached the application differently.
  21. I wrote to UBC last week and they said they'll notify me either by Friday (last Friday) or Tuesday this week. Not sure what that means because they didn't say anything about the waitlist and offers have already gone out so I'm assuming it's going to be a rejection. I wrote to the grad program assistant. Who have you guys been talking to?
  22. That's amazing about the U of T offer!!!! Wait list is definitely better an outright rejection. Good luck for UBC! I'm still waiting to hear from both UBC and Toronto and I know they should be sending something out very soon. My heart skips a beat every time I get an e-mail :S
  23. Thank you! Really hoping it works out at UBC. I was really impressed by the department at York but I'm leaning towards McGill as of now. Can't really make a decision until I hear from Toronto and UBC.
