Hello, everyone. I don't know who is still hanging out on this forum, but, because you all were incredible supporters and my source of energy during my difficult times, I thought I'd stopped by to happily announce that I have been officially accepted off the waitlist from my top choice school.
It really feels surreal and I really cannot believe that this has actually happened. I think it will take some time to sink in. This month has been quite wonderful for me actually, so I am very thankful for everything that I am given. It is indeed one of the best, most incredible thing that has happened to me. I really wish the best of luck to everyone who is starting this fall, or who is trying again next application cycle.
I wish you all the best!!!
Thank you so much for being there for me.

@wootar I am so sorry to hear your news. I really wished that you would get in. Although, I am glad to hear that you have a Plan B and that you are staying positive! Getting invited to 6 places in and of itself is very impressive so you should definitely give yourself credit for that. Especially that you have applied to clinical programs, which are extra competitive. It didn't work out this year for you, but it is only your first cycle. I definitely think your second cycle will look even more successful. Don't give up, maybe it is a sign from the universe that you will end up somewhere with even better fit and advisor. It will come one day and I really wish you the best for your future endeavors. Good luck!

I totally understand the waiting struggle. Not psychology, but waiting to hear on LSU for funding through their Philosophy MA program. Fingers crossed. Professor Shufreider has been nothing but nice and informed me that he should have a better idea of funding within the next few days or so.

From my email early this morning, I got a very nice and polite response email stating that I am still waitlisted, and that there are about three people ahead of me of that waitlist. This means I have another few weeks to hold my breath! Not quite something I was expecting, but it is much, much better than a rejection. Those people were so nice I really want to work with them!!!
I am hoping that many people ahead of me already have accepted offers elsewhere by now and decline those offers...Thank you @wootar and @clinpsy for encouraging me to send this query email. I can now sleep at night a little better.

I really don't think anything negative can come from sending them an email, so if you're feeling that strongly about sending one, do it! You'll have a little piece of mind during this incredibly stressful time.  Fingers crossed for ya!

@WillComeTrue, I just went ahead and sent an e-mail! I really figure that at this point it won't hurt...it is the last day for people to make a decision. It is a little bit of a risk, but I'd rather take that risk and make sure she knows I still want to attend than not take the risk and have a potential offer go to someone else. Here is the e-mail I sent:
"I am just following-up about my status on the wait list as I know that today is the deadline for those holding offers to make a decision.  Our last correspondence was March 14, so I understand that it is possible you have heard from those already holding offers by now. In the event you have not, I just wanted to let you know that I still remain very interested in the prospect of admission if that is a possibility at this point in time. I realize that either way it is somewhat out of your control, but thought I would just send a brief e-mail to express my interest just in case."     After this, it is what it is! I really just want to know one way or the other so I can start thinking about a) registering for classes here in the summer/fall and b)I'm planning on switching houses if I remain here and want to start looking sooner rather than later.   Good luck, keep us posted!

@wootar I think I would wait until 4/15. I agree with @emhopefulme that it is just two more days, including today! For me, I think I will wait until the 15th, and if I don't hear back for some reason, although they clearly stated that they would let me know about my status by that deadline, I am going to email them to query. I gather people started to decline offers this week, and the schools are just waiting until they get an idea of how many spots in total will open up and then they will get back to the waitlisters. Frustrating, but it will happen today or tomorrow. Stay positive!!!

This is pretty standard. Not sure if you've heard back yet, but some schools give those with initial offers a deadline of 4/15 to decide. If some of those people decide to go elsewhere and a spot opens up, the program may reach out to waitlisted candidates in the following weeks. I am sure every school is a bit different. I have no idea how being international factors into this process!
    Best of luck to you!!!

Hi, I am new to this thread, and had a few questions for those who are more informed! As a bio BA and psych MA, I ended up applying to a few neuro programs this cycle and was lucky to be waitlisted at one. This ended up my only hope and also one of my top schools. In the waitlist email it was mentioned that they will let me know before or by 4/15. But I wondered, since it is the deadline for people to defer their decision, how will the waitlist people hear back before this time? Also, my school is a rotation program so my POI will have no power in giving me admission...so it is just a bunch of the prospectives that were offered positions and a bunch being waitlisted and the rest rejected after an interview.
Also, does this timeframe differ if you are an international student? Really hoping to find out...
Good luck to everyone who is on the waitlist! We will all make it!

@WillComeTrue I replied back to each one just to say "I appreciate you letting me know, at this time I remain very interested in your program and the lab of Prof X and the possibility of admission, I will keep an eye out for further correspondence regarding the decision". None of the schools e-mailed me back after that. Also, I sent that e-mail to 3/4 schools I was waitlisted at. Of those three schools, I have been removed from two of the waitlists and remain on one. So, I don't think it hurt me to e-mail back but also didn't necessarily help me.
I'm considering following up with the prof at the last school I'm waitlisted at....but I'm kind of scared/nervous. One on hand, I think "if it's a no, it's a no and it is better to hear sooner rather than later", but on the other hand I'm like "it's only three more days either way". I'm not sure that e-mailing again would help or not, but I'm sure if they were interested in you that they would not discount you based off not responding hopefully!

I'm on a waitlist and just wanted to clarify something that I think many people believe (I know I did). Just because someone turns down an offer doesn't always mean a spot necessarily opens up for a student on a waitlist. In some cases, it seems the waitlist could just be a formality, or the offers that were rejected in your area may go to another area of the department, and that area might be able to take someone off their waitlist.
At the school I'm waitlisted at, they extended quite a few offers, and the majority of people turned them down. From what I was told, the graduate school obviously has to back all of the original offers, but then if they get turned down from the offered students, they (or the area at least, perhaps not the department as a whole) may lose all of those spots. So if they extended 8 offers let's say, and 3 people accepted where they were maybe looking for an area cohort of 5, you would think there were be at least a couple spots open for someone on the waitlist. However, at least for the school I'm talking about, they just ended up being able to take the 3 who accepted. Obviously it's extremely frustrating that they wouldn't take someone off the waitlist when they clearly had a large number of offers to back up with funding. I'm not sure how representative this program is in terms of doing that (and it may also vary by year), but I just wanted to mention this since I know many people on a waitlist assume their fate lies with someone turning down an offer--and that may be the case at many schools, but not at all...so unless you were specifically told that by the program, it may not be the case.

Hang in there! You have already waited so long. I think you could send the adcom professor an email reiterating your interest and perhaps check if the vacancy has been filled yet? I know it's a total agony to be stuck in limbo but stay positive!!

I think it's a bit unfair to tell someone that their argument is "simply wrong" by citing one article that states the contrary. Also, if professors and universities truly believed that these test scores determine a student's future success in graduate school, my SO would not have been accepted anywhere.

I am so sorry to hear the news, @emhopefulme. It is really unfortunate that schools have to reject a qualified candidate like you. Although I am happy to hear that you are already thinking about your plan b and being resilient in that you are thinking about reapplying next year, I can understand that nothing would truly be soothing right now.  However, I am sure that you will get over this soon and you will have a better chance next year. Good luck!

    I have another uplifting story!
I ended up getting into the program!  I thought I was lower down on the waitlist, but my POI called me telling me that he just got another spot and that it's mine
Thank you @WillComeTrue and everyone else on this thread. I am keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!
