I feel like if you were already accepted to a MA program, it means the school felt you have the potential for success. I don't know if doing a 2nd bachelor's is going to help too much since you are already accepted into a graduate program for what you want to do. I would just start the MA and make sure to take advantage of office hours/tutoring centers for any weak spots throughout the program. Otherwise, you are just pushing off the start of your career.

Good luck to the incoming applicants!
GradCafe has become a little under utilized since the making of a discord. If you'd like to join other future applicants and current students in discord please do!

Happy update to this thread - The POI got back in touch today to say I would be receiving an official letter of admission soon!

Same for me, a no from IUPUI. Le sigh. No word from anyone else yet.
@AspiringGC , thanks for the info on the international accreditation stuff. Looks like they've made some progress since the last time I looked at it in depth. It still looks like your university has to be somehow approved by them, or their national accreditation approved by them, before you can sit for the exam. Not something I'd want to commit two+ years of study to unless all of that was already in place, but I'm an old and somewhat risk-averse.

Thank you! I may contact them about it.   I had contacted them about a year ago and was told it was not possible but maybe things have changed in the last year! Hopefully!

ABGC is definitely working or already has in place maybe, allowing internationally trained GCs to sit for the board exam if they went to an accredited school recognized by ABGC. There's some more info on it here: https://www.abgc.net/becoming-certified/recognized-accrediting-bodies/

As long as you have the required prerequisite courses and relevant advocacy experience I would think programs are generally open to any undergraduate primary major. I think a lot of people major in the biological science stuff because those majors encompass a lot of those prerequisite courses and allow individuals to expand on them as well.

This page discusses internationally trained genetic counselors. Looks like you'd just need to double check that any international program you apply to are recognized as an Accrediting Body through ABGC if you want to practice in the US.

I think they play a big role. I had a major GPA of 2.68 when I applied last cycle (and didn’t get in). I did poorly in ochem and Biochem as well. To offset that, I took a neurogenetics class through cincinnati and I retook Biochem this cycle (got an A, better than my previous C).
Factoring just Biochem in, it raises my gpa to a 2.77 I believe. My overall GPA is only decent at 3.36 (last 60 units around a 3.8 though). But I do believe retaking the course showed initiative and that I still have that upward momentum I ended college with. But prerequisite grades can be offsetted with many things as long as you have at least a C in them. I think my experience helped do that more so than retaking Biochem did.
So you can get accepted with around what you posted, just make sure you have something that makes you stand out or shows that you can do upper level science classes. Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions!

I'd give them a couple of weeks so that they can get registrations for the matched student in.  After that, I think they should have a bit more free time to talk.  In the past, I've always e-mailed the program directors and they've either e-mailed me back my feedback directly or scheduled a time to talk to me on the phone.

I think from most people's understanding you can receive an e-mail anytime that morning (their goal is to have all of them out by 11am), BUT if you haven't gotten an e-mail yet you can log onto the match site and see your results at 12PM.

I was waitlisted for funding at one of my top choices and just funded there!!!  I paid for a trip to visit the school myself and told the director while I was there that this is my top choice but I have to make a decision about my other funded offers by April 15th.  Shortly after getting home from the airport, I received an email with a funding offer.  I definitely think visiting and showing that I really wanted to go there helped my chances.  Best of luck to everyone still waiting!!
