Sounds like Southeastern is the smarter choice. Opportunities to go for free is HUGE and the fact that you may have to rush for the other school seems very stressful and it would be more expensive! Good luck with your decision!

I was waitlisted at my dream school, and the director of the program told me I was #9, and since the program was pretty small, I didn't think I had a chance of getting in. I flew from IL to TX for my spring break to visit, and I got an email a few days later saying my willingness to travel showed my dedication to the program, and I was accepted! It is definitely worthwhile to show your interest in a program if you are on the waitlist!

dude...  do what you gotta do...  all this frowned upon stuff is BS lol .. im sure it happens all the time and they expect it to happen hence the waitlist

I don't think it's unethical or unprofessional if you politely withdraw a decision. Waitlists mean that these things are bound to happen, and programs certainly wouldn't keep a blacklist. The worst that would happen is you would lose that deposit, but no bridges will be burned

This is probably one of the most stressful parts of school. You could always apply for a Graduate Assistantship or a part-time job on/off campus. I know that a lot of people look for more laid back jobs like working reception somewhere, so when they are not busy they can be working on school work. Graduate Assistantships are nice because (in my case) it helps pay for about 3/4 tuition and a paycheck/stipend for working and doing whatever they may need you to do. My Graduate Assistantship is 18hrs a week and $7.50 an hour. So that is something you could look into! I know people who have worked at the library, tanning salon, dining commons, etc. You can always work a summer job and put money away to save for when you go to school as well to try to minimize how much you need to put on a student loan.
    Good luck!

I just got off the waitlist at TWU! It is possible everyone! And I definitely emailed all of my waitlisted schools basically just asking for more info about it and confirming that I was still interested. The least they can do is tell you sorry no we can't give you more info until after April 15th.

Another queen of waitlists here, currently on 6! (was on 7 but took my name off of one) I'm hoping to hear some good news from one of them before April 15 as all of these schools I'm waitlisted at are closer to me than the one school I've been accepted at so far. Also still have not heard from my number 1 pick so I'm hoping for some good news before the 15th!

Maryville University! I haven't heard back from any of the other waitlists though, so I'm not sure how things will end up but I am beyond relieved. I have been working in the field (ABA then SLPA) since undergrad and retook a few classes online (got a C in anatomy the first time around eek). Never give up if this is truly what you want!!

I’ve already sent my deposit in to Emerson College in Boston! I applied to the four schools in Boston (Northeastern, BU, Emerson, and MGH) and got straight up rejected from the other 3 before I heard back from Emerson. I was absolutely terrified I’d be rejected (or waitlisted—somehow having to wait longer seemed even worse than just being rejected). The day I got accepted was one of the top ten happiest days of my life!
I didn’t get get a chance to visit any of the schools besides Emerson but when I went for the interview I absolutely fell in love. At that point I’d only heard back from BU, but honestly after the interview and tour I knew Emerson was the school for me. Their clinic and resources seem amazing, the grad students were sooooo friendly, and the clinical director and clinical instructor I met were lovely. It just “clicked”.
Tonight is the open house for accepted students and I’m so excited! If you were waitlisted or not able to make the open house for some reason and have any questions, let me know!
I know this is getting long but I’ll also mention—I’m one of those unicorns with a sub-3.0 undergrad GPA, no CSD background, and I spent the year after undergrad working a full-time food service job. Anything is possible and if you’re considering whether or not this path is for you because of your grades, I say take the leap! ?

Hey everyone! I've been reading along, but this is my first time posting. I was wait-listed at Wyoming on March 9th. I saw some of you had applied, but didn't see results posted. Anybody else on the wait-list or get accepted?? Also, it's relieving to know that Montana hasn't sent anything out yet. The waiting is killing me!! Good luck to everyone still waiting, and congrats to everyone who got accepted!!

Hi guys! As someone who took it took three different application rounds to be accepted into graduate school, I can assure you I have had similar frustrations and doubts with the process. When I would talk to family and friends many would not understand how difficult this process is and how competitive it is to get into graduate school for this field. Having rejections and waitlists is rough, I won't lie especially when you talk to other students and feel like you are the only one that did not get in anywhere. But don't give up! If this is what you want to do then don't give up. Keep moving forward and improving your applications year after year. I also honestly can say that I feel like not giving up and applying says something about your character and this is beneficial to professors that review your application. This past cycle I was waitlisted and accepted into the most programs, so for me third time was a try. Also there is still time to hear back. Those that are already accepted have until April 15th to accept their spot. I know from experience that people will sit on an acceptance and wait from other schools. So its frustrating for those that are still waiting and haven't heard squat. This past cycle I was accepted off a waitlist in July!!! By then I had already made my decision on a school but trust me there is still time  I hope that was helpful and like someone else said we are all in this together!!!

So sorry to hear this, but don't give up! I know the waiting process is difficult. I am two years out of undergrad, applied three years in a row and FINALLY today got my first acceptance. I have a low GPA, and decent GRE scores. I think what helped me was emailing the programs I was rejected from last year to ask how I could strengthen my application. Almost all of them said 1) get experience in the field, and 2) take classes. For the last two years I've been working as a Developmental Therapist w/Communication Specialty for my state's early intervention program, and this year I have been working full-time as an SLPA (in addition to DT after school). I took three courses at a nearby university this summer in their Communication Disorders program while working to show that I can handle work and a strong course load. I would also recommend applying to schools where they grant interviews, so that you have the opportunity to really sell yourself! Hopefully you get in somewhere this year, but if not keep trying!!! I'm almost grateful that I didn't get in the last two years because now I'll be entering a program with tons of therapy experience. There's always a silver lining:) Best of luck!!!
