Well, you seem incredibly biased, and you give negative reputation when someone disagrees with you, so I am sure you are a class act.

I'm a bit skeptical of your experience in Boston if you really hate it that much.

Where did you decide to go! I was admitted to UNC health informatics master's program. I've lived in Boston before too and I really don't like it!!! I would consider cost of attendance, location, and job prospects afterwards and then choose the one that interests you more. I will never live in Boston again for anything. I'm trying to migrate all the way back down to south Florida where I was born lol. I am interested in STIs as well. The American Sexual Health Association headquarters is in Durham, NC.

Baggage limit depends on your ticket. When you buy your ticket, your airline will tell you the baggage limit.
All important documents and valuables should be in your hand carry if possible. For long trips, I usually pack one change of clothes in my hand carry. It's helpful if you want to change into fresh clothes when you arrive, and also just in case your checked baggage is lost or delayed, you can at least have a fresh change of clothes while dealing with this extra problem.
You can usually buy a sim card at a store in the airport, and they are available at convenience stores and phone stores around the US. You don't need a credit score to get on a pay as you go plan. This type of plan means you pay for some credit on your account and as you use the phone, it depletes your credit. However, I found that most phone companies will allow you to get on a plan without much credit at all. T-Mobile, for example, uses your I-20 or DS-2019 instead of a SSN to open your account.
I think wire transfers are the easiest way to receive money from other countries.
I think you should bring money in a form where you can access it within a few days easily. I would say you would want money in cash to last you for one week and a US dollar money order drawn from a US bank to last you the first 2-3 months if possible. Open a US bank account right away and deposit the money order---you should be able to access it within a week. Note that if you cannot get a US dollar money order drawn from a US bank in your home country, it might mean that you cannot access this money for many weeks, so make plans for that.
Usually, you are responsible for moving the furniture you buy from the store. Some stores will charge you extra for delivery if that is helpful. For places like IKEA (good place for cheap furniture), they will deliver for something like $100-$200, depending on distance. Many people will rent a big van or a big truck and buy all their furniture in one day. Renting a truck like this will probably cost around $50-$100, depending on the size of the truck, how much you drive it, and how long you take.
Note: There is an exception for really big items, like mattresses or sofas. Usually, the store will deliver this to you, and they might even set it up for you in your apartment too! Sometimes this is part of the purchase price, but sometimes you pay extra. It depends on what price you agree on.

And you seem pretty rude. It's pretty ridiculous for you to accuse me of not doing research. I thought this forum would be a supportive environment but I see now that it is not.

I would have chosen the same. I wouldn't worry about being not professional. I did it before and applied to that same program again and they still admitted me. It's to be expected that this kind of thing happens. Schools would be ridiculous if they thought that was the only school people applied to. Most people are trying to weigh their options. It's not ideal to accept and renege but it is better to have an option than not at all. Worst case scenario you declined A and then didn't get into B either. Then what would you have? Nothing.

$700 doesn't sound like a lot of money anyway. I didn't apply to PhD programs and don't know how their stipends work but that's just my two cents. I would be thankful for any admissions offer because everything is so competitive. you're lucky to be admitted at all.

Just found out I was rejected from Wake Forest MA in psychology. I was waitlisted then this. I'm guessing it had something to do with my GPA and lack of research experience.

    Hi, this is Kim.
Isn't it frustrating to get into grad school and pursue something you love? Reading this thread, I can feel the struggle and all the effort you have been putting into your own career. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP! Two years ago I got rejected by all schools, I cried and started to think that I wasn't worth it. Last year I didn't make the cut and I was depressed. It got worse since everyone was telling me to quit and stick with my Bachelor degree. I don't have a very high GPA btw, my GRE was acceptable (I'm an international student). At the time I started to think negatively and was about to quit. Sometimes I felt like I was getting used to being rejected it doesn't really hurt that much.
Even when you failed or you feel like you want to quit, KEEP REMIND YOURSELF NOT TO AND STAY ON TRACK. Not everyone has the same advantage. I understand some have it easier than others. This is why we should prove that we are worth it. Life is a bitch. She tried to take you down and she may have won a few times. But in the end, bitches cannot win unless you let her! Yes you were rejected, cry your eyes out, then get back on track! Please!
This year I applied for one grad school only because I love that program and that I want to study there. I made it! Be like a pug dog who doesn't know how and when to quit! I am sure you will get what you want eventually! I'm sending all the best wishes to you who will apply next year and BEST OF LUCK!

That's great, thank you! Hmm...I don't know, what do think of Tallahassee? I've heard really mixed things about it; some say it's fairly dangerous, others that it's perfectly safe; some say the weather is great, others that it's hot and humid all year round (which I admit worries me...I'm from Boston)

To each his own I guess. I'm not really in favor of affirmative action. I don't think ethnicity should be asked on applications at all. And regarding racism I HIGHLY doubt that you could generalize that at just Texas. Racism happens everywhere. Texas would have been cheaper for you lol. Seattle rent is outrageous my friend paying like $2100 for a one bedroom there.

Where do you see a 67% error?  I see a predicted range of scores (and the anticipated score was actually higher than my GMAT score when my GRE was converted).  It gave me a higher predicted quantitative and lower predicted verbal percentile.  You may disagree, but typically GMAT test takers are better versed in quantitative methods (save for the science specific).

Whoa, okay, I didn't mention affirmative action at all. Maybe I could better generalize that across the south on the whole, based on your comment? Again, I don't know, I haven't lived there. Sure, racism and sexism and other challenges are certainly everyday issues for a lot of people.
I worked through a budget between the two and yeah, Texas would have been a little cheaper overall, but not by any amount that makes the decision unrealistic. I think a one bedroom apartment is a little ostentatious for a PhD student. I've been looking at shared houses in both cities - fairly comparable actually, and utilities seem to be around the same, too.
EDIT: But thanks again, always appreciate some different insights!
