Congrats for being forwarded to the national competition. I'm applying to Vanier this year for 2019-2020.

I heard back from my school shortly before I took off for break, and I'm being sent on to Ottawa!! 

I was told that people who were rejected knew by the time the break started (otherwise you wouldn't hear anything). You can always check your status on the student center under "Finances" (the "Graduate External Scholarship" link) and that would be updated even if they haven't gotten around to sending emails yet.

Cool thanks! My department administrator said I would hear something this time if I made it through, whereas if I didn't hear anything last round (from the department to the university level), that meant I did make it through. That switch was very confusing!
I just checked the Grad External Scholarship link (thanks for that!) but I didn't see anything for the doctoral scholarship (only my masters applications from this past year and the year before). Is the doctoral SSHRC supposed to show up there?

I am eligible for FRQSC!!!!! Just got the email. So relieved!!!! 

I just found out this morning that my fellowship has been upgraded to the CGS. 

They replied back saying that the news has not been posted yet but will be. So basically, I still have no idea if this is positive or negative.

They told me last week they would follow up with me after the revision of my application. So I guess I just have to wait.  

This is so stressful. I feel both relieved (for realizing the mistake) and anxious (because I might still not be eligible or they may not being able to give me a chance for this typo).

I don't think so but check with your institution. My university gave me over 1.5k last year and AGAIN this year for conferences in Europe.

Are you talking about the masters award? Isn't the deadline Oct. 11? If so, you should remind her asap. Also, she might just see your reminder on Tuesday (i.e., the day before the deadline) as this is a long weekend. 

Well they aren't there when we log into ResearchNet so I wouldn't trust ResearchNet's assertion very much haha....

expert in your area, yes--but you need concrete explanations, examples, article references, etc.
you need to show how working with the same person for several years is a strength for you/in your field...for some reviewers, this could show a lack of mobility and diversity...how is your supervisor vital in conducting your graduate research? 
the other elements are not relevant imo

Good to know. I already have a supervisor and since I got the CGS-M and have a lot of volunteer/work and a bit of research experience, I think I have good chances to get it. I will start working on my application this August. Fingers crossed! 

Because you are already in grad school, your chances are much higher. I think when you already have a supervisor (i.e., you write the name of your supervisor IF APPLICABLE in the application), it looks much better. And you are competing with people who are still in their undergrad who don't know yet who their advisor will be (unless a prof agrees they write their name). Having a SSHRC CGS-M will also help. Good grades/research history always helps
