  1. thank you so much, I really appreciate the thought!! will you be attending Chicago, or are you still hoping to get into Michigan off the waitlist?
  2. can I submit my own result? because "we strongly recommend that you take someone else's offer for your sake" is one hell of a line University Of Washington Linguistics, PhD (F19) Wait listed via E-mail on 5 Apr 2019 I 5 Apr 2019 I emailed them to ask about a time frame and they replied to say I'm technically on the waitlist but, and I quote, "we strongly recommend that you take someone else's offer for your sake." So I'm going to take that as a no, and happily stay in the EU for another two years at least.
  3. update, I heard back from Lund (Sweden) today and after over a year of not knowing for sure what I'll be doing in six months, I have a future again ? so I emailed UW and now I'm just waiting for the "oh um sorry it took so long but yeah nah"
  4. yeah I’m going to contact them if I don’t hear anything by the end of the week — I’m expecting to hear back from the European MA programs I applied to either today or tomorrow, and like a coward I want to know whether or not literally my entire future is hanging on UW when I send that email ?
  5. I'm still waiting to hear anything from UW about the general ling PhD, beginning to think they just lost my application at this point tbh
  6. did you have an interview with UW? I'm still waiting to hear from them as well and I saw one interview invitation earlier in the year and now I've been seeing both acceptances and rejections in the results search... it's my last PhD option but I'm not going to lie, this late in the game I'm not super optimistic. I've applied to some MA programs in Europe as well, and now I'm just hoping I put enough effort into my backup applications that I'll get in somewhere, at least
  7. shoutout to Penn for finally getting around to officially rejecting me after I’ve known this for like six weeks
  8. that’s like when I was rejected after interview and in the email they were like “I’m sure you will do well wherever you choose to attend” which is nice except for the part where I definitely mentioned to them at some point during the visit that I didn’t have any other offers
  9. honestly, I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse
  10. oh for sure, I’m already lowkey strategising on how to be better next cycle if I don’t get in anywhere lmao but in the meantime... retail limbo
  11. I applied to six and was officially rejected by three so far, but with Penn and Stanford I’m really quite sure we’re just waiting for the courtesy of a formal rejection letter because they sent out their interview invitations literally a month ago... so for me, everything is hanging on Washington, and if not that, then the MA programs I applied to in Europe. if none of those work out either... guess I’m stuck in retail limbo for another year.
  12. right? like according to the results search, previous years stanford rejections were always on valentine’s day... like just tell me you don’t want me and go pls
  13. what is penn doing and can they just reject me already interview invites went out over a week ago and they're already sending acceptances to people they presumably interviewed so like... we both know how this is going to end, can you just make it official already pls
  14. I'm international, and based on gradcafe data I've gotten the notifications I've gotten so far (two rejections and an interview) at the same time as Americans
  15. never mind, I've just gotten on my computer and seen your signature, it wasn't visible on mobile! I don't know about the other ones, but @lnik said Purdue won't reply for a while yet so don't get too worried yet!
  16. looks like there's a lot of us phoneticy types this year!
  17. I took a gap year as well, but mostly to take a break from school after 18 continuous years of education haha I've been working retail and volunteering, and just generally enjoying a less stressful existence (except clearly that didn't work out because of application stress lmao) I've applied to some MA programs in Finland and Sweden as a backup, and I guess if I don't get into Michigan after the interview weekend or into the MA programs I'll just keep working and try again next year, but I really hope that doesn't happen because I missed academia almost as soon as I left my graduation ceremony!
  18. did you have any backup plans? are you applying straight from undergrad?
  19. oh no, sorry to hear that! have you applied anywhere else?
  20. tbh the Northwestern rejections strike a really odd tone, because the first paragraph is literally "you are denied entry" and then the second one goes on to be like " this decision is hard to convey because we respect your intellectual ambition and wish you success" signed, another linguistics rejection lmao
  21. welp, another rejection, and I'm expecting the official Penn rejection any day now since interview invitations were sent over a week ago lol
  22. now that's a much more sensible question than mine lmao (and I also want to know the answer!)
  23. sounds like a plan lmao although it's on my wrist so it's not like it's hard to spot
