  1. @sturdyelm - Really great info. Thank you for all of that.

@aaresident - That's awesome you're considering the joint degree route with a MSW. My significant other is currently at Columbia for her MSW and I think she's sort of regretting not applying to Michigan as I've raved about the school nonstop since September (and they have a really great MSW program).

@turkish coffee - I completely agree with your response to @sturdyelm. I found a couple of current Fordies via social media sleuthing and talked with them. They all said the same thing re: ton of money to give away after matriculation. While it may not be the most prudent choice to attend a school based on the chance of receiving non guaranteed funds, this appeared to be a somewhat common route to financing their tuition.

Also, The Ford School is the only school I applied to. I will be attending. I don't think I'll be able to make it to Spring Preview though (previous plans for that weekend involving airfare and hotel). I'll be anxious to hear all about it.

Did anyone actually get the chance to talk to students last night during the calling night? I wasn't able to chat with the person who called me and was hoping people might share any information they got. Thanks in advance!

I got my call last night as well but I was away from my phone. I've been texting with them today and plan to talk soon. I'll let you know how the conversation goes.

Decisions will come out tomorrow, since only admitted MPPs can apply to this Ford fellowship, and it says the Fellowship application opens Tuesday, March 14. Wishing Ford could see all of our investigative research and analysis based on data we have found :P

Great work TC!!! Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

First off, congrats to everyone who got in this year. If you didn’t I didnt get in last year and I had horrible GPA, and GRE, and still managed to get into a few great schools this year. Don’t give up. Find your bal... I mean your desire and get it done!

Anyhow, I’ve been watching this board for about a year. Just curious, what everyone thinks the top 3 most popular/prestigious MPP or MPA programs are the past year. USNews ranks it by MPP and MPA seperately, but for instance for the MPA they list Indiana, and Syracuse top 3, but no one ever talks about them, and I’m sure top consulting firms and other employers aren’t always running there for recruitment. What’s your list, regardless of MPP, or MPA, just from a prestige or popularity standpoint?

    Mine:

    1. Harvard (Kennedy)

    2. (Tie) UC Berkley (Goldman)

    2. (Tie) Chicago (Harris)

    -------

    Hon mention:

    Princeton (WWS)

    Duke (Sanford)

    Georgetown (McCourt)

    Michigan (Ford)

You say you had a horrible GPA/GRE - care to give specific numbers? Where'd you apply both years and where'd you get in this cycle?

Any idea when the Ford Schol might share admissions decisions? It seems they did it on March 7th last year. This waiting is a hell strain on my nerves.

It seems like they are going to be sending out decisions later this year than they have the past two years. Last year was the 7th and the year before that I believe it was the 13th/14th. I have called their office multiple times over the past three weeks and they just keep saying, "we should be releasing decisions within the next few weeks".

Anyone have any idea when decisions are coming out? Based on last year's timing, it seems like it should be this week...I hope!

I think you're right. Last years first decision was reported on March 7th, which is tomorrow. I just called the admissions office but they were very ambiguous.

I did, it wasn't really helpful though. My mentor reached out to me once, but never replied my email thereafter.

That's unfortunate. I did it as well and exchanged a handful of emails, talked on the phone maybe 2-3 times for a total of 90 minutes, and she read my essays to make sure it looked okay. I plan on reaching out to her after I receive my admission decision to let her know how I did.

I really can't overstate how awesome the Ford students I spoke with are. Intelligent, driven, wonderful track records, but oh-so-kind and down to earth. That is the culture there. One sent me a syllabus and said I could stay with them if I needed to on a visit. Good people!

It's funny because I reached out to a handful of students as well and had the same experience.

Did anyone do the Pipeline Initiative?

That's kind of you to say! Who knows with these things. I have strong ties to the Chicago community and my work experience aligns with some of LBJ's specialties. It's also my understanding that those programs are typically less selective than the ones I'm waiting to hear from. But what about you? Why is Michigan your number one? Education policy?

I want to be a Foreign Service Officer long term. Ford Grad students can take language classes for free, more Ford students intern with the State Dept than anywhere else, the State Dept employs more Ford alum than any other federal agency, their international policy faculty is incredible, they have a diplomat in residence on their campus, and I absolutely love the atmosphere in Ann Arbor. I traveled to Ann Arbor for the first time in October to check it out, and instantly fell in love.

I want in to Ford so badly that I may or may have not quoted a Michigan alum in both of my GRE Essays (scored a 5.0)... It just feels like the right fit for me for a hundred reasons.

I was making the same assumption. Thanks for the info @dollybird. Duke and UPenn Fels are supposed to release decisions then as well.

@dollybird just wondering why your understanding is that LBJ and Harris are less selective? According to Peterson's (not sure how reliable they are) Harris's acceptance rate is 43% while Ford's is 63%, for example.

I believed the Peterson's number until I spoke with a Ford School adcomm and was told the acceptance rate for the MPP program is somewhere between 35-40%. Obviously that still isn't mega selective, but quite it's a bit different than the 63% Peterson's is showing.

I'm in love with Michigan. I want to study social policy and work closely with social work and business students. I also like the idea of staying in the Midwest, closer to my family. I had to email with them yesterday about something and they said "mid-March." Probably want to set expectations low re: the release date.

Judging by your LBJ and Harris admission/funding outcomes, I'm sure you are looking good for Ford as well.
