I wouldn't add this to your CV. Most schools do ask whether you have applied for funding and you can also let your POI know. You can add CGS-M to your CV if you received the award or if you received and declined.

I think it's a great first step. Definitely prepare as if it's a prelim interview. I skyped with my POI last year in October and now I'm working with her. She later invited me to visit her in person.

    Best of luck!

Has anyone heard back about OGS? Not sure if the notification dates will be the same for each school, but figured I would ask!

Hi all - long-time lurker here.  I know this is super late in the game but I'm hoping that I could give some people (future applicants) peace of mind. After being initially rejected and waitlisted, I've landed two acceptances!
    Acceptance 1
    School: University of Toronto (OISE)
Concentration: School and Clinical Child Psychology (SCCP)
    Type: MA
Date of acceptance: March 29, 2019
Notified by: Email from both SGS that my status had changed on March 27, 2019, which included an official offer letter and funding; Also was notified by my POI via email the same day
    Note: Was initially rejected
    Acceptance 2
    School: Queen's University
    Concentration: Clinical Psychology
    Type: MSc
Date of acceptance: Unofficially March 29, 2019; Officially April 2, 2019
Notified by: Call from POI on March 29, 2019, and received official offer letter from SGS April 2, 2019
Note: Was originally waitlisted; Secured SSHRC funding
In a bit of a dilemma when it comes to choosing between these two programs, as there is a great research fit at both and I get along well with both POIs. POIs are very similar in many regards. Location is something that is impacting my decision as I currently live in the GTA. I feel bad holding onto a decision longer than I need to but I'm seriously struggling. Any thoughts?

I don't think @ventiamericano's POIs treated her in any way that was unfavourable, assuming that is what you mean. They were still willing to encourage and support throughout the application process. There are many factors that go into the decision process and although having connections seems pivotal, it's not a contract for future opportunities with the POI. I'm from Canada as well and I can't say it is largely how the process works here. It seems to be more transparent on what specific universities/programs are looking for and sometimes the decision is made by ad comm as opposed to the POI. It's hard to say what happened here, but I wouldn't assume programs allow for nepotism when it comes to admission.

Depends on the PI and their values as well, not all want to take their own students, and some will explicitly state so. If you're in some niche field where your skillset is hard to come across and your PI has basically trained you to work in their lab as a graduate student, of course they would want to take you, which is what you might be familiar with. More popular people in more popular fields have less of a problem finding qualified people to carry on their research, so I would think they have the least incentive to take on their own students. Might've been the case here.
