I'm currently in the field in a tech job, so I'll be working all the way through! Also thinking of writing up a paper for a previous tech project from a few years ago.

Lol I still haven't heard official decisions from two schools I applied to, but I too am assuming rejections from them at this stage now that it is April 18th.

Focus on your research and try to publish and go to conferences. Showing that you are dedicated to research and are able to follow through is key.

I'm in the same boat - every time an e-mail pops up on my phone my heart stops beating for a second. I would just wait it out - don't contact them again. They usually are pretty spot on when they give you a time range (in the programs I've spoken to) - so take it easy and try to get distracted! Once I hear back from the school I interviewed at, I'm going to contact other schools I haven't heard from just so I can know my options before I make a final decision. Best of luck!!

First official acceptance and first official rejection both within the last week, and still not a peep from my other 5 applications. Waiting is hard but at least I know I'll be going to grad school somewhere in the fall.
Best of luck to all of you!

Ok, so this is not as straightforward as you might think. I emailed the coordinator and my POI, and was informed that I have a strong application and am definitely still in contention, although I was not invited for the interview weekend. They said that another bunch of interview calls might go out around mid-Feb.
    There's still hope!

Old topic, I know, but I recently applied for a government position that requested a resume. I decided to make a new resume specifically for this position.
I managed to make all of the relevant things fit under the Experience heading of the resume by sorting them by position and focusing on the skills gained/demonstrated. For example, instead of having a list of pubs, I had a bullet point under my grad school position that said something like, "Communicated results to broader scientific and public audiences by publishing in peer-reviewed and trade journals." I did the same sort of condensing and converting for presentations, grants, awards and any other things that are usually just listed under their own headings on a CV. By doing this I was also able to cut my 4 page CV down to a 2 page resume.
As mentioned above, I also worked key words and phrases from the job ad into the resume (and cover letter), so that if HR sorts applications using some sort of software first, then I wouldn't get automatically booted for not having a "relevant" application.

I would definitely contact the graduate coordinator. That's how I found out about a couple of mine.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I never knew!! Nor did I set down this path with any better info than an internet forum poster could give me.
    I did not solicit advice.

I applied to Cornell EEB last year so I guess I have a little bit of insight for that one...even though I ultimately got rejected. I thought I had a pretty good chance since I had been emailing back and forth with a professor who seemed very enthusiastic, and Cornell is my current PI's alma mater so he wrote me a very specific rec letter. I would have been working with one of his collaborators had I gotten in. (Looking back, though, I didn't have nearly enough research experience and my GPA isn't Ivy League material.)
Point being: Cornell EEB sends out interview invites around this time. Last year their interview weekend was the last week of January and invites went out the week before Christmas. I got my rejection by email in the middle of February. For stats: their program receives over 100 applicants. The top ~20 of those applicants will get invited to interview. About 8 people will get accepted.
Also, where are all the other EEB people on here?? Is this just a small year? It seems that there were many more prospective students last application round.

I wanted to make a separate thread for EEB stats b/c the programs tend to be pretty distinctive from gen bio and I'm curious what other people are up to this season! Here's a copy of the same rubric that is used in the other threads
