PSA: As acceptances start to roll in, this is just a friendly reminder to everyone from someone with lots of contract experience, NEVER ACCEPT A POSITION UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR FUNDING PACKAGE IN WRITING (unless, of course, you are not expecting funding). Even if it is your top choice and you've been dying to go for the last 20 years... I cannot stress enough; get that s**t in writing.

I have not yet. I received an official letter today, after being extended an informal offer over the phone 1 week ago, but they said information about scholarships and assistantships would be sent later. I'm assuming it's because this program (clinical psych PhD) has specific scholarships and awards that they need to figure out who to give to after official offers have been given.

I agree with what some others said about... if you did not interview, it is safe to say you no longer are being considered for admission. BUT, if you did interview, definitely do NOT assume rejection yet!
I interviewed at the Univ of Florida for the clinical psych PhD program as well, I applied to/interviewed with neuro/CAN faculty and I have not heard from anyone yet since the interview. I am guessing that correspondence will be an individual email from the DCT and/or direct correspondence via phone or email from the POI. The person that posted the admissions offer was NOT offered admission by either of the POIs I applied to (I spoke with that person via PM) so I am assuming that POI is just much quicker than all the other POIs. Plus, INS was the week after interviews and this week is UF's spring break so maybe those two things play a role in why other faculty have (seemingly) yet to send out admissions offers AND why they haven't been responding to you emails. Hopefully more people that interviewed at UF will start hearing/posting soon! It is definitely my top choice so I am hoping for good news!

Since they included the part saying feel free to ignore the offer if you are local, I would stay at your own place. I normally fully encourage the opportunity to stay with a current student, but if I were a current student hosting an applicant, I would feel kind of weird about someone within the same city wanting to stay with me despite not actually needing somewhere to stay. In my interview experiences, none of the applicants were actually local, so I would assume the offer is intended for those traveling.

    Congratulations, and best of luck!!

In general, I think it is good to stay with a grad student, but since you live so close I don't think it would be worth it. I would personally prefer the comfort of my own home if I'm that close to the university. If you lived further (an hour or so away) then I would definitely stay with a student. Just my opinion though ?

Seeking advice...this is my first time applying (clinical phd), and have had presumed rejections from 4/5 schools and 1 actual rejection from my top school - I'm limited in programs considering I'm pursuing a neuropsych concentration. I have years of specialized experienced in a lab, 4 publications and a conference symposium, a great psych GRE score (recommended since I majored in neuroscience rather than psych), and great professional and educational recommendations. I do have an average GPA and gen GRE, but my GRE scores expire this August (cool) so I will be retaking and anticipate doing much better now that I'm an "adult" and can dedicate the necessary study time. So, I do plan on improving what I can at this point.
The problem: I reached out to POIs at all schools prior to applying and received green lights from all. After my top rejection, I reached out to my POI to ask for feedback/advice for my next application, and she responded "nothing in particular to improve upon, just a very competitive year." I get it...but come on. There's a reason she picked other applicants over me - why not just tell me? Unless of course it's too much of a burden to tell each individual what their application lacked, which I also understand, but what am I supposed to do with that? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Damn if this isn't a mood. The connections are everything in this game, and as someone who didn't do psych undergrad and also applied for schools out of state and in a different concentration area than my masters, I feel like I don't know ANYONE to vouch for me on a personal level. It sucks. I purposefully applied to more PsyD and less-research-based PhD programs so that my clinical experience could shine more on its own, but research connections are still so important.

Ha I actually am an RA already. It's frustrating because I already had a ton of experience as an undergrad, but only got 1 interview (at a top program) so I did another 1.5 years full time. I have publications, I have posters. I've beyond shown I can do the work. I just need someone to give me a shot -- but it's way easier to hire an engineer who took a few psych classes for fun or someone who has a huge list of prestigious awards/opportunities or the right connections.

I feel your pain I feel like a lot of us got unlucky with this round because of how competitive it is this year. I don't know if people say that every year, but it seems like a lot of people took time off to do do research for 2-3 years, so they have really impressive post-bac research assistantships, and P.I.'s are just having to make a call about how to invite, knowing full well many well qualified applicants won't make the cut.

I had 2 interviews last weekend on the east coast (so it was cold), and many women were wearing dark/black jeans with boots or flats and a sweater or nice shirt, and men generally had on dark jeans as well with a button-up top and nice shoes. It's not very formal!

This is a good chance to tie in your personal experiences to the lab you're applying to. For example, maybe you have lots of experience with a certain technique or approach they use, or experience working with a specific population. Something similar in essence to your personal statement about how your experiences have shaped you into a great match for them. I'd focus more on how those personal experiences of yours make you a great match for the lab and not worry about the comparison aspect of it.
