Antikythera got a reaction from Piagetsky in SSHRC Doctoral 2019-2020
Last year I was trounced with a low 7 score and it hit me hard. I hit the grind and doubled the length of my CV in the intervening year, and this time I got a 16/20 and a CGS D. It feels like a narrow victory, but now I have a moment of peace that, dare I say it, feels earned.

I'm not sure either. I can see some shifting year to year, but going down by 6 points when my publications/conference presentations have improved and my proposal really hasn't changed significantly really doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I had hoped I would have strengthened my score enough through the publications/presentations to win this year, but no suck luck it seems like.

I'm actually in the same boat. I have a paper due tomorrow and another on Sunday. I thought I'd let myself walk the news off a little, but maybe reason will prevail here. Maybe a raincheck on that! I wouldn't mind more keener friends at Western.

I miss the grad club so much. I'm at UW for my PhD and the Grad House is a very poor substitute.

It sucks, but I guess it was a learning opportunity. I have to keep telling myself the SSHRC does not determine our value.
LOL, this actually cheered me up a bit. I guess I am one of the snapped. Thinking of it as some overlord doing it randomly does smart less.

I think the other grad finance/scholarship person was away this week so I’m guessing Paula had some extra work... especially with the whole OGS delay. Oh well, at least we know that we’ll know in under 24 hours! Fingers crossed!

Thank you! ? I wonder why Western in particular was delayed.

I just heard back from Paula and she says the notifications for Western will be sent by tomorrow at 4pm

Well fellow Western people. The tri-council scholarship coordinator is about to give a talk so I don’t think we’re going to be hearing today unless she sends out emails or updates the student centre right after.

I know some people don't apply because they have very good resources: maybe their grandparents bought college savings funds, or maybe they have been working and saving, or maybe they are just from affluent families. I think a large percentage of people who apply to SSHRC are really motivated because they need the funding to get through.

I’ve been lurking for months. Hello, all you familiars. As I’m reading through all of these comments to the tune of “I don’t know how I’ll make it through financially if I don’t get this SSHRC,” does anyone else find themselves kind of harrowed by the fact that the *majority* of people don’t? Some people don’t even apply—I’m imagining the majority don’t. But HOW? That’s (at least) four of our years below the poverty line, and then future prospects either start to snowball from there, or they don’t. I am probably banking far too much on succeeding this round for my own good.

Ugh! It sounds so frustrating and draining to be on pins and needles for that long. I'm rooting for you!
