thank you. i have sent an email. i hope they respond. are you an international applicant?

Thanks! Nope, I actually live about 20 miles from the school...

I hope you hear something back from the e-mail. Are you international?

Well, I just interviewed with them last week (like 4 hours of interviews!), after assuming I'd been rejected (they called the week before--on like April 17--asked if I was still interested and asked when I could come for interview). I was told they'd be meeting yesterday, presumably to decide (was just a regular faculty meeting). So...hope to hear soon? I was rejected from the other place I applied to (Hopkins--they let me know a couple months ago!), so it's not like they have competition. Still...

For the record...still nothing from them...

WTH. They STILL haven't said anything? I'd seriously be calling them at least every week for an update. That's just rude to completely ignore the April 15th deadline

Has anyone heard nothing from programs they've applied to?

I responded to you over PM, but thought I'd respond here for others reading. I just got invited to interview today after dead silence for over 4 months. I'm guessing I was unofficially waitlisted? (Unofficially in the sense that they didn't tell me.) I'm guessing that could be the case for other schools, too--If someone didn't give their decision till 4/15, then slots might now be open.

  5. If anyone applied to JHU Population, Family And Reproductive Health, check your portal. Just saw my rejection (after seeing a couple reported in Results). Said an e-mail would be going out in next day or two. Oh well, figured I didn't really have a shot there and would have needed funding to afford it. Pretty sure I'm getting a UMd MCH rejection, too, since someone in Results reported an interview request today that they'd received a month ago. When I talked to head of program in November, he'd said rejections are sent out first, then interviews. So unless they're doing multiple rounds of interviews...maybe they changed the order in which they do things? Oh well, looks like no PhD program for me (only applied to two since want to stay local)

Thanks for the heads up, guys! Confirming also that JHU decisions are up on the portal, without any email sent.

Luckily, I was accepted to HBS. Still no information on funding, so I don't know if I'll accept.

    Good luck everybody.

    Congrats!

Just FYI for others--not for all JHU programs have been updated. Still in limbo on Population, Family, and Reproductive Health: "Application sent for review."

I was checking my UMD application portal and my decision was posted on the 31st - in for PhD in Behavioral and Community Health! No email was sent to me yet though or any further contact from the Department.

Congrats!!! Odd that no e-mail was sent. Mine (Maternal and Child Health) still says Application under Departmental/Program review...It's under a different department though, Family Science.

At this point... I'm just gonna go with...we've been denied (at UMD).  :-( it sucks that no one has returned any of our emails.

Yeah...I'm starting to think that, too. They could at least let us know that! Even if it's a group form e-mail...

Wish I hadn't stumbled on this forum. I was trying to ignore the decision process until I got decisions but now I keep checking.

I keep checking, too! My therapist said the advice he got when he applied for his PhD was to just try to forget you'd even applied. That's much easier said than done! Doesn't help that I've e-mailed the department head for one of the programs last week, and he hasn't gotten back to me... despite having told me when I talked to him a few months ago that interviews would be late Jan./early Feb. and that flat-out rejections would go out pretty early (before interview requests).

So I usually go to that same email...m and there's a link below the password reset link...."Once you set up your account, you can use your username and password to access the application here." Only thing is... When you log off, click on one of the links to give to the admissions page, because of you funny, you might be able to log in again for a little while.

I logged on and nothing :(. Did you get an interview!?

OK, I feel better that you also didn't have anything new in yours--maybe they're still working on the Family Science/Maternal and Child Health department?

    16 minutes ago, hccgrl said:

So for mine it never said my recommendations were there. But I know they have them because SOPHAS has them. So i wouldn't worry. Our department is taking for ever!!! Specially since Dr. Roy said they only get on average 30 applications. But I guess it's harder to pick 2-4 candidates vs the higher amounts in the other departments.

OK, that's helpful to know. I thought Dr. Roy had said fewer applicants than that...or maybe that total was for both Family Science and Maternal and Child Health, then they pick 2-4 for each program, so 4-8 total out of the 30? I think Dr. King-Marshall said they generally interview 10 for that number of spots--I think both said not getting any news early was a good sign because they send out rejections first. But I worry they're just behind this year? Hope we hear something soon! I started drafting an e-mail to Dr. King-Marshall to check on status, but afraid to send it because I don't want to seem annoying!

@MarylandGirl & @hccgrl - I logged onto my UMD portal and saw a decision was available. Just a heads up!

Thanks, just went in to check mine and am having difficulty--the problem is, I started an application for the Family Science program (which was not through SOPHAS), then decided to just apply to Maternal and Child Health (which is through SOPHAS). So when I try to access my application on their site, sometimes i end up with the correct one, other times, the wrong one. Had a moment of panic because it said my Recommendations hadn't been submitted, when I knew all 3 had gone through SOPHAS...but apparently, this was for the application that I never completed...Hopefully I can manage to access the real one!

Can I ask how yours changed? Hopefully in a positive way!

@MarylandGirl i Just logged to my portal and it looks a little different. Where it says test scores.. previously it just said received, but now it says  GRE: received official 3 times (I sent them 3 different scores).

I wonder if this means we're getting closer to a yes or no.

I hope so! Mine had that, too--well, I only sent them one set of scores, so it just said "GRE received official"--but I'm not sure if it said that before or not. I was hoping we would have heard this week--with Monday being a holiday, I imagine the soonest we'd hear now is Tuesday... Do you have problems logging in to the portal? I can't seem to find a link that works to get to it, so I just have to use the link from my e-mail to reset the password, then request to reset it, then I can get in. Anytime I try to use some other URL to get to it, I receive an error message. If you have a better way, let me know!

Per Dr. Kevin Roy, when I spoke to him on the phone, they grab all applications after the deadline and look at them (family science/MCH program). Early deadlines didn't matter, everyone is being looked at the same time. That's why I didn't complete mine until Dec. 1st instead of rushing.

That's basically what he told me, too :-) I ended up submitting mine by 11/15 because I think the deadlines listed on SOPHAS conflicted with those on UMd's site, plus I was concerned about how long it would take SOPHAS to verify it (ended up taking only a day!) I hope we hear something soon... Do you remember what he said about interviews? I thought he said something about it being a group thing rather than individual, but maybe that's just part of it?

  14. 2 minutes ago, hccgrl said:

Mine has been under departmental/program review for ever!! The latest date I have is 12/18 @ 7:44am. (Dr. King-Marshall has emailed me that early multiple times before, so I'm guessing that's when she sent it to the department).

Mine lists the same date--maybe that's when she passed them all along to the actual department?

I'm interviewing with UMD's Department of Behavioral and Community Health on Tuesday; the coordinator said other invitations to interview for other departments will be coming shortly.

Thanks for the update! How did you get the request for interview--e-mail or phone call? And who did it come from? (Just making sure if it's in e-mail it doesn't end up in spam...) Good luck!

This makes me nervous!!! Thanks for the update! ?

Edit: I sure as heck hope that the fact that I don't have a rejection in the portal is a good sign!

Does yours also say "Under Departmental/Program review"? Also very nervous! (I was expecting to have received a rejection by now, honestly!)

To those who applied to UCLA, did you send 2 separate GRE scores to SOPHAS and to UCLA's own application form?

It was a bit confusing having to do 2 separate applications, one via SOPHAS and one via the UCLA website... My GRE scores were received in my SOPHAS application, but not in the UCLA mainframe application (i'm not sure if they will have 2 different college codes?). I recently got an email saying that there was a minor discrepancy in my application which was preventing it from loading onto the mainframe database... I wonder if it's because I didn't send the GRE score to both portals

I had a similar issue with Hopkins. Apparently, when I took the GREs, I picked "Bloomberg School of Public Health" instead of the Hopkins one that involved  SOPHAS--I think because it was SOPHAS Hopkins MPH, and I wasn't applying for an MPH. I told this to the admissions person at Hopkins, and she was able to retrieve my GRE scores from the portal where I had them sent. I hope that makes sense...So maybe let the UCLA rep know where you submitted them and see if they can access them there?

    Thanks all for your information!

In terms of JHU, not sure about IH, but I applied for Environmental Health and haven't heard anything back.

I applied at JHU for their Population, Family, and Reproductive Health program and also haven't heard anything. (Submitted application 12/1).
