LCGC got a reaction from bryvy in Genetic Counseling Fall 2019 Applicants
Going off of @GeneDawg's post, feel free to message me with any questions! I would love to help out because I know how stressful this whole process. Feel free to join this GC forum as well https://discordapp.com/invite/QDHZy7S...it helped me so much during the many months of waiting!

Honestly it's really hard to accurately calculate probabilities once you've reached the interview stage. There are so many subjective measures that can affect how a program ranks you. Plus with the limited number of programs spots, and the overlap in applicant pools between some schools, your chance of getting into school A isn't independent from getting into school B. Getting "rejected" by school A after the interview stage might increase your chance of getting into school B, since you're no longer competing w/that student for school B.

I got a telephonic interview offer from Indiana University a few hours ago. I guess they sent it out now after finishing most of their in-person interviews. So if any of you are international applicants/applicants who cannot interview in-person - there is definitely still a chance! And maybe otherwise too! Point is don't give up on IU even if you haven't heard anything yet.

i don't think many people apply casually..applications are expensive as is the GRE so i'm assuming that almost everyone who applies at least looks at program websites and sees that most schools only accept around 8-12 students/year. I feel like most people posting on here are just looking for a community of people we can relate to, because at least in my case i don't have any close friends or colleagues who are also applying for this program and i'm sure this is quite common.
So in my opinion, it's hard to gauge how qualified people are based on whether or not they're posting on this forum. At the end of the day, qualified or not, many of us are just trying to connect with others and help each other out Good luck to your person who is applying! I also know many people accepted into programs who only got one interview so # of invites doesn't mean much at the end of the day, just how well you connect with the interviewers at those interviews.

I just wanted to say to everyone...though this process SUCKS and is mentally and emotionally draining...I hope everyone can become a GC (sounds cheesy I know). I think we could all offer some great things to this field. It is extremely competitive but we will get through this! I just know I need some motivation right now with this process and I am sure everyone else does too!

I have a friend in the Northwestern program, and she said we should hear from northwestern toward the end of this week (but when I asked her last week the director wasn't 100% sure on an exact day yet, so still kind of unclear)

I'm back!!!!
I got interview offers from UAB and Utah yesterday. It still feels really surreal. I'm beyond happy!
Also want to prepare for these interviews as best as possible!
Does anyone have any opinions when choosing interview dates if you should or shouldn't go in the last group?

So today had a weird turn of events, its was my second time applying and out of the six schools I had applied to this year I had received 5 rejections in a row. I had started to map out my plan B since it seemed Genetic Counseling was just not meant to be and then all of a sudden I received an interview from Indiana State this morning. To all of you feeling down right now, trust me I know and understand the pain of rejection, I have received nothing but rejection (5 last year and this year) but there's hope and hard work will pay off.
