For those of you who haven't heard from Augustana yet, don't fret! I emailed the program director asking about the likelihood any additional interview dates might open up (the days available aren't the easiest for me to get off) and he responded with this:
"As our application window does not close until February 5, the ASGCGP expects to continue to receive and review applications from well-qualified candidates who we would like to interview. (In fact, at this point in time we are still reviewing some really good applications that came in weeks ago.) We cannot, at this time, accurately predict how many applicants may fall into this category, nor can we guarantee additional interview slots. It is likely we will open more slots on additional days, but, if we do, we will simultaneously be inviting more applicants to interview. ....  If so, would likely be in March."
Of the three days listed on where you can sign up for interview slots, one day looks completely full, another is half full and the third still has spots for both options (morning and afternoon interviews). Based on last years numbers of interviewing around 50 applicants, I'd say they still have at least half of their interview slots open plus as he mentioned, they could be opening up more dates in the future.
Also, I am thoroughly impressed because the director shows obvious knowledge of my application last year and mentioned what a great job I had done at making it even stronger this year, commented on Arizona's need for GCs, and then he ended the email with "Pack a coat ;-)". Feels nice to actually "stand out" as a person and not be just another application. Really shows that they truly DO take a holistic review of applications.

This is my second time around, and I think I may give myself one more try then potentially consider changing my ideas. The financial burden is definitely overwhelming so I don't see myself going more than three times.

For everyone that received a no from North Carolina, keep your heads up! It's just one of multiple schools.

I feel you, as a second time around, it's hard to not be discouraged. I'm wondering what about this time has made this your last attempt? Good Luck!!

I'm applying with a less than ideal undergrad GPA, but I've had a lot of cool experiences since graduating and some post-bacc grad level work that I'm hoping will help with that!!

    Hey guys,
I’m a second time applicant this cycle. Last clue I had one interview which was pretty good considering my low under Graduate GPA (2.86 due to personal hardships). I did contact programs I applied to for application feedback for this cycle and applied  as much of it as I could to help me be a better applicant this time. I am nervous that I might not hear back from many programs this cycle because I haven’t accomplished as much as I had originally hoped I’d be able to. A year goes by really quick.  This year I’ve applied to 10 programs so I hope I hear back from a few.
    Undergraduate GPA- 2.86
Genomic advocacy Graduate certificate GPA - 3.85 so far (I’m doing 3 classes in the spring)
    Old GRE scores: 157/154/4.0 (V/Q/AW)
    New scores: 162/166/4.5
Old volunteer experience: volunteered with a free clinic for people who have no insurance (for 5+ years).
New Volunteering experiences: I started volunteering with a sexual assault crisis line in august. I also am a volunteer Sunday school teacher. I was a camp counselor this summer and have been more active in the networking aspect of the clinic I was volunteering with last year.

Anyone else applying with a lower than ideal GPA?

I have a few apps that give you a space for ~500 words to explain anything you want. I take that to explain what I can. I had a couple of particularly rough semesters for personal reasons and I tried to touch very briefly on that and turn that into a "what I learned from this" kind of story.

Hi everyone! Just joining here! I can't believe the first round of due dates is already almost here! Since I missed the introducing ourselves part, I'll keep it short. I did my undergrad in genetics & psychology at UW-Madison (2.8 because Ochem, ya know) and I'm currently finishing up a graduate certificate in genomic advocacy (3.5). My advocacy experiences are: a crisis hotline, working with children on the Autism Spectrum, volunteering at the local children's hospital, and using dance/movement therapy to work with adults with different neuro/developmental disorders. I've taken the GRE a couple of times and have gotten my scores to not outstanding, but acceptable. Looking forward to collaborating with everyone! May the odds be ever in our favor.
