Got waitlisted at Iowa for rhetoric, went to the visit back in February, two rhetoric admittances turned down their offers of admission and they yesterday I got an email I was rejected— I don’t get why they didn’t just send it after the visit, I’ve been putting off looking for a job-job until I knew and that’s two whole months where they knew they were going to reject me but didn’t. Not a good experience, especially because I had to email to get a response and everyone kept insisting being waitlisted didn’t mean I was still interviewing. Can’t help but feel really embarrassed and also pretty angry about the whole thing. The visit wasn’t great— I could tell most of the faculty didn’t want me there and I already have pretty bad social anxiety— but dang. 

Happy news, though! I got into the rhetoric and political culture PhD at the University of Maryland last week! Fully funded for 5 years. I'm pretty sure that's where I'm going ❤️ 
 
The only place I haven't heard back from is the MA program at UGA.

Joining the NU rejection club, lol. Also not a surprise. I had all but forgotten the application was still active ?

Landed an interview with UMD - College Park. So glad to finally have a response from them!

Back home from Madison! The visit was awesome and I really liked getting the chance to chill with the other prospectives in my track.  

Well all the visit to Milwaukee on Friday was amazing. I felt so welcomed by their community, and I could see fitting in there perfectly (both interest wise and interpersonsonally). I got the feeling that I was really valued and wanted in the department.
So I accepted this morning! Even though I still have an outstanding application decision, I feel 100% confident that this is where I should be going.
I'm just so pumped right now guys!

I AM SO HERE FOR THIS!!!

When I visited Indiana last semester I spoke to a PhD student there with a similar experience. She had a conditional offer of being expedited into the PhD program if she entered the MA program instead and performed satisfactorily. She said she felt like it was pretty beneficial for her to have done that and helped her really find her focus prior to entering the PhD side of things.
In my own experience, my undergrad was more professional/applied in media production so I felt my masters (which is super theoretical/research based) has helped me tremendously in feeling more confident that I can really hit the ground running in my PhD program and successfully tackle coursework already having an idea of things.

Also on the Indiana front: The program has recommended me as a fully funded candidate and now I am just waiting upon the overall grad school to hopefully confirm me!!!

I'm dying to hear back from them! Saw some acceptances for the Rhetoric track a couple of weeks ago, but I applied to PR and am hoping to be accepted with Dr. Liu as POI. Considered emailing the graduate office, to check on status, but afraid to come across as a pest.

@sriracha18 definitely ask how often grad students see their advisers and how easy it is to contact them. And how long professors have been at the program. I hope it's settled down by now, my undergrad degree is from IU, so I feel strongly connected to them.
@deshypothequiez I hope you hear from NYU MCC soon! I am in love with Lisa Gitelman! It is so great and so sweet, she answers emails so quickly (how I not so secretly judge Comm departments).

I got the funding email from Milwaukee during a class and I spilled my drink everywhere when I jumped up  yelling "I got funded!" 

Woke up to great news this morning (I live on the other side of the planet). Received an email from my POI/temporary advisor (my choice!) informing me of my acceptance to UW-Milwaukee! They are very generous, and has offered me a TA position for four years, with an additional 6K extra award for my first year. Aside from this, I’m just really glad that it worked out and this POI is someone I really want to work with! 

Y'all! I just got into WFU. Funding to come in a few days. Still, it's my first "yes" and not a waitlist. Congrats to the good news everyone has received and positive vibes to those who are still waiting on good news.

I'm inspired by how my friend did her wedding (city hall wedding, then a potluck in the park with whoever was in town). My SO and I are both Chinese Americans and our extended families in China are all unaware that we're queer, so luckily we wouldn't be pressured to have an expensive, high profile, traditional wedding. So at least I have that going for me.

I just got into UI at Chicago's Communications Studies PhD! 3 years guaranteed funding! Where they house New Media & Society! I get to stay in Chicago!!!!! I am so excited!

My condolences for you and your family. 
Also, don't let it get you down! It is still very early on in the process. I'm sure that something will end up sticking. What other programs are you waiting on?
