This all happened this year, yeah. I can pm you on more.

Yeah Columbia seems like it's a mess. It was originally my top choice- sort of relieved I got waitlisted, because I probably would've taken the offer, without really thinking about the problems or really taking into consideration what the price tag would do to me out of sheer faith in the program and the (largely absent, but I was hopeful) faculty. I spoke to a faculty member about the situation shortly after and they said I "dodged a bullet"

Hunter people- I finally declined my offer, which came with some funding. Hope someone has good news coming their way.

Got the waitlist email from Columbia today too. All done with apps.
Yale (painting) - accepted
Hunter (combined media)- accepted
Columbia (new genres) - waitlisted
Prob will withdraw Hunter. Not a lot of time left to act for Columbia. So if I don't hear anything in the next week I'll withdraw from waitlist.

Anyone else getting spambox emails containing "acceptance letters" from the National Honor Society? I got one that references a school I applied to in the subject line, but have not heard back from the school itself haha. Made me do a double take
Assuming cash grabbing scam

@hoax yeah I got the same email, interviewing for sculpture. I thought the wording made it seem like 10 photos of 10 new works were expected but maybe I’m just freaking out too much!
hey @rebkhan, so you were right the first time (basically) and i was wrong. i contacted hunter today and they said "you may bring the ten images printed from your slide room application and if you have more work you may bring up to ten more images in addition so it could potentially add up to 20 images total"

@charoarte Hunter sent me the interview info last night at 11:30 pm hah. Did you get it? What do you think of the requirement to bring 10 photos of new work? That’s a lot! Also is the statement of purpose our artist statement we submitted in the application?
for what department? my email says "10 print outs, no larger than 8½ x 11, of any new work completed since the SlideRoom portfolio submission along with the images submitted to SlideRoom."
Doesn't seem like they all have to be new. Also, the passport sized required photo thing seems strange.

It’s the first time ever I reply to an MFA program and I only applied to Yale. I got rejected. I do feel it in my stomach, however, I guess I have to get used to the fact that I can be rejected, and if I want to be a professional artist I will probably be rejected many times in different places. So I learned something. Good luck all. If I want to try again do I have to wait an entire year? And do they put me in a separate file as someone who was rejected already? Does this affect the next outcome? Who knows. . I wonder if there’s a way to learn of why I got rejected so I could better prepare myself next time.
I think that applying again is a good idea and also shows persistence, and a lot of people who get interviews/ get in did just that. Also, I think after maturity, skill and ideas are considered, with Yale it's really up to chance. As it's been said here, they're curating a class- so a rejection should not be taken as a personal offense.

First timer here. Congrats to everyone else who got interviews!
I have not scheduled my interview yet. I'm wondering if it's wise to hold out a few days to see if I get any requests from any other East coast schools to plan my trip, but it also might not be smart to wait..

Props to all the folks on their second or third try- that's real! I know someone who applied twice- waitlisted the first time, interviewed and rejected second time.
I'm applying for the first time. I may apply again if I get rejected from everywhere else haha

CSS is required for Yale, and I think some of the other Ivy's/private schools like Columbia (they require a CSS by Feb 1) to complete your potential award.
I think there is a week or two until Yale's is due.
Also on the topic of funding, I called Yale because once you complete the CSS, it notifies you that Yale also requires you to send you and your parents signed 2016 federal tax return and w-2, but Yale's website says they need the papers from 2017.
When I called Yale they said the 2017 on their site was an error but they haven't fixed it yet...

Interview notifications just around the corner...wondering exactly what an interview means? (That you successfully completed your application -or- that they see something in you application that they are interested in) What percent of students are typically interviewed? What percent are not interviewed?
An interview means that the school has reviewed your application, and are interested in what they are see, but does not guarantee admission. It's the "second round."
I think the rest of your questions depend on the school.

Anyone participating in Columbia's online Q&A tomorrow?
thanks for the reminder. i may try to see if I can catch any of it discreetly at work

This was passed around a lot last year but I haven't seen it posted here.
Gallery representation isn't and shouldn't be everyone's goal, but this study broke things down pretty well in terms of race, gender, and education in New York's commercial gallery system (and confirmed the obvious)

i don't see any px dimension requirements, as long as the size is lower than 64mb. i would keep it at or under 1000px to be on the safe side.
envious of all you who are completed.
i'm applying for the first time - still finishing a couple pieces!

Also heard about the big names in the mix for photo. One of them is one of my favorite artists. I'm glad there's more thorough article coming out. Everyone i talked to there being really loves the community and no place is perfect - and yes I hope this press gets things moving because that needs to happen.
I was accepted off the Columbia waitlist this week, and turned it down. In a perfect world I would go, but I simply cannot afford it, even with the biggest scholarship I've heard they give. Best of luck to everyone going. I'll definitely check out the open studios and shows when they're up!
