@Oklash  I know how you're feeling. Like there is no path for you if you don't end up in academia. But who knows what will happen, a job could come around that is perfect for you, even if it isn't in research. But you've put in the work and that in itself is something to be proud of. You've accomplished so much, and whatever happens you can be sure you did everything you could. That doesn't mean you're a failure, and it definitely doesn't mean you'll never amount to anything. You already know you're capable of doing something incredibly difficult (getting through this hellhole process) and that drive and energy could help lead you to a path you can't even imagine right now.
I've felt this way, many many times. The best thing you can do while you wait is to talk to someone (either in person or on here) to help you understand your worth, and get through these tough times.
Results for this cycle aren't even close to done, so there is always a chance. Keep your spirits up, and good luck.

While I'm not one to enjoy the misery of others, sometimes people do such a good job of combining heartbreak, disdain, and criticism, they create an epic rejection result post. Here's my personal favorite, someone rejected from Stanford GSE:

That pretty much sums up how I'd feel too. When I'm obsessively checking the results page, I often see this post and it makes me chuckle. It passes the time, and at least their loss will not have been in vain.

The workload can be tough to deal with for the first semester, which depends on the classes you want to take.
However I will say that I love being a GTA, and it's given me great experience. Plus having tuition deferment and a stipend has taken off a lot of pressure for me to focus on academia.

Me and my partner just got a new puppy in time for finals, and sometimes I spend hours grading papers (which I wish could be spent playing and training her). I asked my mom how she made it through her master's with children, and she said "I had no life." This is how I feel with my fur baby.
Also I can't go out for an end-of-semester graduate student bar crawl because I'm watching her by myself, and it'd be a long drive with a puppy.

Get a sense of the preferences of the Powers That Be in your department. Especially the DGS, your advisor, and committee members. If they so much as hint that your focus should be on your work, focus on your work. For better and worse (mostly worse) many professors DGAF about undergraduates and have second thoughts about those who do.

If you have not already, it might help to ask students in your department who are TAing what it is like and how they're balancing the workload.  TAing means different things to different professors.  Sometimes it might mean you hold study groups and guest lecture regularly and other times it might mean you make copies and maybe do a little grading.  You also want to find out what sort of training/support is available if you need help or a student comes to you with a crisis.

I have to say, I spent the weekend reading through this whole thread, and it was really enlightening! The conversation around technology was super interesting to watch progress, and it's great to see such a longitudinal thread to get a more robust idea of what I am really going to need.
I do have a question about the backpack thing though. Like seriously, how big of a deal is it to have a backpack as a grad student/TA? My back and hips are pretty jacked up for a variety of reasons, and I have a very hard time with anything where the weight isn't really evenly distributed. I have two North Face backpacks, one all black, one gray and aqua, little different in size, but I really don't understand why I should give them up. Just for appearances?
