I have the impression that I was unofficially accepted into my number one choice. I feel like I would be putting my "recommenders" to work again without need. Thoughts?

@nesasp This should be the least of your worries because your recommenders will probably submit an identical (or near identical) recommendation letter to what they have already written for you.

I emailed a school that has already sent out rejections and offered an interview (which I didn't even know they did interviews since the website doesn't state they do, nor do their past acceptances/rejection submissions show they do...maybe that professor just wants to chat for clarification...who knows) and basically asked what my application status was. The answer: 'We're still processing applications. Your letter will be sent out by March.'

Idk why but the realist/occasional pessimist in me was like, "Gorl, that's a rejection." Sadly at this stage, it almost feels better to receive a definitive 'no' :/.

I know it's hard not to, but I wouldn't read too much into it. The person you emailed may be getting a lot of emails like yours and he/she probably doesn't know anything more.

If only they realized the mental state that this waiting game puts us in! But hang in there!

Have anyone dreamed about rejection/acceptance and it turned out to be true for real?

The night that I submitted two of my applications, I had a horrible nightmare that I sent the Hopkins personal statement to Harvard and the Harvard personal statement to Hopkins! It felt so real!! ??

What does everyone do to avoid checking results search constantly? Work is a little slow this week, and I'm expecting 3 of my programs to start sending updates out based on historical dates... This is my second time applying to some of them and I'll be super upset if I don't get in again :'(

I wish I had tips for you, but I've been checking the results 100 times a day too.  I don't think anything besides hearing back will help ease my inability to think about anything else!

Anyone else still not hear from ANYWHERE for Epi? So far:

    Rejection: Emory

No word from: UNC Chapel Hill, UCLA, Berkeley, BU, Brown, JHU, Columbia

I'm starting to think this application cycle was a complete bust for me...

@linnbear Haven't heard from UNC or JHU either. Just curious, what's your concentration within epi?

  6. Obviously exercise is important for maintaining your physical well-being,  but I see it as my easiest/most convenient form of mental health care too! It's a really good way to relieve stress and maintain focus.

My New Year's resolution this year was to adopt a regular practice of mindful meditation. I haven't kept up with it as much as I'd hoped too, but it's another really good tool for mind-body wellness! My workplace does a guided mindful mediation session every week and I'm hoping I can find something like that at the school/city in which I end up.

Anyone willing to share their examples of what they said were strengths/weaknesses? I'm really struggling with this one.

    '

(Disclaimer: psych is not my field, but this is a general question)

I said that my strength is my ability to learn and master technical skills on the fly (and then gave an example that pertains to my research experience). For a weakness, I said that I get pretty nervous giving presentations. I'd like to get to the point that I don't have to practice a GAZILLION times before hand in order to feel comfortable. And I then said that I was looking forward to improving that skill during the PhD program.

A tip I was told is that the interviewer doesn't actually care that much about what you say your strengths and weaknesses are. They are really just trying to get a sense of whether you "know yourself" and can communicate it.

    Good luck!

Does anyone know if UNC interviews most of their potential applications before admission for the PhD in epidemiology program?

I was told by the department that interviews are not required, but are sometimes requested. I also applied to this program (I'm interested in cancer epi) and have yet to hear anything. It's a top choice for me so I'm getting very impatient! I hope we hear something soon.
