I was having a really really hard time at home (two deaths, flooded house, pneumonia) and I guess it was showing in my normally cheery attitude. So my favorite professor asked me to come into his office and he said "I just wanted to check that everything is okay" and I just broke down. I was a little embarrassed, but he was very kind and very very encouraging. I think about him a lot. I wrote him a really nice letter when I graduated.

Instead of just posting the research being done in your department, maybe also mention whether or not the research team is accepting new students. I shouldn't have to email every university to ask if the algebra team is accepting students, but I don't want to give you my $80+$27+$10 for you to tell me I'm not a @$^#%&% fit!
Also! Why do you need my CV if I have to also just type everything out! Some of my applications asked me to list every math class I have taken, the professor, the course number, the TEXTBOOK USED, and TWO IMPORTANT TOPICS COVERED. IT WAS HELL. Your ass knows damn well what I covered in differential equations (hint: differential equations)

Of course, this is hypothetical because rejections are fake and aren't going to happen (right..? heh....)

I would maybe get in touch with the disabilities accomodation office at the university and get their opinion. I personally do not think you would need to disclose it beforehand, as they accepted you based on your merit, not your social skills or ability to stay still. But if you do need extended time on tests and breaks during class, I would talk to the office of disability accomodation, maybe get something in writing from them, and then ask for a meeting with the DGS before classes start. I am interested in hearing the other responses though! Good luck and congrats!!

So this is in reference to my undergraduate institution which I loved and would rather not specify it's actual name, but it changed it's whole website design since I graduated and the main font they use for all the pages is almost as bad as Comic Sans. See the example below. Who decided this was the font that should dominate the entire website????

The University of Pennsylvania, which has one of the best NELC departments in the world, has a suprisingly 90s style webpage.

I got rejected all around too.
I feel you 100% right now. Its like being kicked in the teeth and I'm already depressed about my thesis so its like kicking someone who is already down.
Im listening to "Anthem" from Superchick. "Heres to anyone who never quit when things got hard."

!!!! I was just accepted to a great MA program. They have a great renaissance lit program and I’m so excited! I’m sorry if i seemed a bit melodramatic before but this has honestly been such a long process. I initially applied to 6 MA programs and 4 PhD, each with lots of hope/consideration. I also have two more apps still pending but it feels so good to finally hear a yes! Especially one that’s funded. And from a phone call of all things.
Thanks again everyone for being so supportive. I will probably seek professional help in the upcoming months and  I really appreciate everyone here.

No matter the program, we have all been there. Some school seems perfect, but their website is god awful. There's no information on funding, the research interests were last updated in 2009, or you just cannot find the deadline to save your life. On the other hand, some websites have everything, are amazingly user-friendly, and very very clear. I'm interested in seeing your favorites and least favorites.
For me personally, my favorite website is University of Nebraska - Lincoln's math department page. They have every piece of information available. They talk about funding, funding rates, health insurance specifics, old qualifying exams, and so much more. Look how good!! http://www.math.unl.edu/graduate/ I also like TAMU's math page http://www.math.tamu.edu/graduate/
I also like how WUSTL groups faculty research by topic: https://wumath.wustl.edu/people/faculty
I'll update with my least favorite when I decide. If you don't have a favorite or least favorite to share, then what specific things are important to you? What things do you hate? I'm hoping maybe when all of us become successful academics, we can ensure our pages are good. I'm hoping to get STEM and non-STEM alike.
I personally love a good FAQ, numbers in the funding section, checklists, and an easy to use research interest page. I, of course, LOVE when schools give an estimate of when you'll hear back, but I understand why that's rare. I really don't like when everything is on one page (http://mathstat.slu.edu/graduate-programs).

I would say that if you are offered any interviews, do not mention that that's part of your plan. It seems sort of sketchy, I guess, but I do think it could be detrimental to your chances. Unless them knowing is very important to you. A friend of mine began her PhD in linguistics and an advisor wouldn't take her because of her maternity plans.

I really want to thank everyone for their kind comments. This process has been a very long and arduous one but this thread has really helped. Its actually given me strength to look into internships and I've started on a few applications for those as well. If I get into a program I will definitely update. But I feel a lot more hopeful about what will happen in the future

I agree with your second paragraph a lot but I did not know how to phrase it. Even people who had parents that have their bachelor's have an advantage. My parents know NOTHING about college, nonetheless anything about graduate school. I was on my own for pretty much everything. If I weren't surrounded by friends who had parents in the know when I was younger, I probably never would have even gone to my undergrad. And now I have a great undergrad mentor that helped me a lot.

Ditto on the first paragraph too. My mom gets so mad when I visit but have to take time out of the day to get some studying done. Oh well, they just miss us, I guess.

    All my applications fail, today.
Before that, I was depressed so bad that many friends recommended me to go see a doc. To be honest, the moment of to be rejected by my top & last choice, is not too bad. The waiting drained me out, but accepting what happened and making plans for future are not too hard to process. It's the answer that we need the most.
It's my 3rd rejection from Harvard with 8 years' hard work. I thought I gonna die if I fail this time.  But I am tougher than I thought.
Good luck to everyone. Each one of you, will do better than you expect.
