What are people's experiences being waitlisted?
huskypsych replied to Waitlistedbuthopeful's topic in Psychology Forum
If people are following proper etiquette, they will hold no more than 2 offers at a time (and even then they should be making a decision between those two ASAP). It seems like the vast majority of interviews will be wrapping up before March, so I would hope that most people who have multiple offers would be able to make a decision by early-mid March! However, there's always hope until April 15. -

First Cycle Results: What to do next? Please help.
huskypsych replied to iamsotired's topic in Psychology Forum
I was lucky enough to get an RA position at my undergrad institution so I didn't have any down time between graduation and starting my full-time position. It definitely felt weird to not having anything to do school-wise outside of the hours of 9-5, but it's a good weird Find whatever job gives you the best balance of boosting your CV and giving you the quality of life (financially and enjoyment-wise) that you want for this year and get started! Then find a hobby until application season restarts. I tried knitting - it wasn't successful. -

It sounds like you already know what you need to do! You're clearly very close since you've gotten great feedback from the people you've applied to. Beyond boosting the GRE, it seems to me like a year or two more of research experience will put you in a great spot! I applied last year as a senior in undergrad and got rejected everywhere, but one more year of working as an RA and I have been getting much better feedback this year. I wouldn't worry too much about "clinical experience", as long as you can illustrate that you can communicate effectively with human beings, you should be fine -

My conspiracy theory is that whoever really did get accepted into TM's lab has an anonymous hater who is trying to ruin their life by pretending to be them lol -

I really think that the Duke and Yale people are just trolls. Especially given the stats the alleged Yale person listed... Easy for me to say since I didn't apply to those programs but I think they should be ignored. Though I do live for internet drama tbh lol -

Exact same thing happened to me last year. Two interviews, then two rejections, was still in undergrad. Take your time to take care of yourself and mourn for this cycle. I happened to take a beach trip the week that I got rejected, but that was just lucky Then when you're ready, make a game plan on what you'll do this next year or two, whether that's an RA position or some other path. Two interviews shows that you're already so close, reapplying with a degree and a touch more experience in a year or two will get you to where you want to be. I applied the next cycle and am really happy with the number of interviews that I got. In a year, you'll be saying that you're so glad you got to take a year off of school and learn more about yourself (even if right now that feels like BS). You're awesome!! -

100% agree! I was once at an overview where someone was literally reading off Mitch Prinstein's list of questions in order word for word - don't do that

I think it depends...there are some areas of the country where the cost of living is just absurd and even a really reputable program might not be able to provide a comfortable stipend. -
I've stayed w grad students at several programs and it has ranged from sleeping on the floor next to another applicant to a bed in a private room that was fully more comfortable than my own at home. I think it's totally reasonable to ask what to expect, especially given the fact that you have a medical condition.

Clinical psych right out of undergrad?
huskypsych replied to therapisttobe's topic in Psychology Forum
I was in a similar spot last year - strong GPA and GRE, good amount of clinical and research experience, and I got interviewed at 2/8 programs and those programs were statistically the least competitive out of all the ones I applied to, plus I went on to be rejected to both. This year, very little has changed on my paper application, just a couple of research posters and a better written personal statement, but I've had much more success. I cannot speak to PsyD or master's programs (which I would highly recommend you look into if you're looking to be a therapist), but for PhD programs, it really does seem like just having graduated has improved my application by a lot. -

For one of my schools last year, I didn't receive my generic rejection email until April 21st. -

In this particular case, I personally know that I am for sure rejected because I followed up w my POI after a phone interview. My status hasn't changed, either, though. I assume they will send out an email eventually, but I do think it is probably safe to say that if you haven't heard, it isn't good news. -

huskypsych replied to clinicalpsych20192020's topic in Psychology Forum
They're not going to let you only interview with one person In my experience, they'll fill in the spots with faculty members that your POI wants you to meet and/or who have room on their schedule. Unless there is someone specific who you are dying to meet, I wouldn't reach out to ask them to change up your preferences. -

I am pretty sure that all profs invite their own students on their own time, so it would be completely dependent on who you're applying to work with. -
Black leather ankle boots have been my best friend over my two interview cycles.

You're welcome to message me for my POI, but I have no insight into whether all invites have gone out or what it means if you haven't heard anything either way.
