I am pretty sure that all profs invite their own students on their own time, so it would be completely dependent on who you're applying to work with.

For anyone that applied to Clinical Psych PhD programs at UNC-Chapel Hill, American University, or University of Cincinnati - I emailed their graduate admissions and all these programs are still sending out interview invites. Not all interview slots have been filled. UNC applicants will hear by January 18th, and University of Cincy applicants should hear by the end of Jan. Hope that helps!

I think they are quoting me from the social thread. I emailed the social grad coordinator yesterday and she responded with that. Unless @nboehm reached out on their own, this info is only for social.

Friendly reminder that if you’re an applicant, even if it’s your second year of applying, you have absolutely no right to tell someone that a piece of their application must be weak if they aren’t getting offers. That’s not how the clinical psych world works. There are more competitive applicants than there are spots, so a lot of it is luck. Social capital also comes into play, so check your privilege. End rant.

Just so you know some people don't even know the forum exists! I was exclusively looking at the results page until my friend who is also applying was only looking at the forum and we talked about where we were getting info! I had no idea these posts were even a thing. So they may just not know

Thanks for the post- did you email them to get that response or did you get an email you and let you know?

The way I see it is, would you really want to spend then next 5+ years at an institution that would frown upon their students having a work-life balance? There may absolutely be faculty who would hold your engagement ring as a negative factor. I can't imagine the other concerns students may have regarding work-life balance. Most students are at the age where getting engaged/married/having kids is normal so it really shouldn't be an issue.
Congrats btw! It's such an exciting time!

It definitely shouldn't matter but old-fashioned (sexist) advice would say not to wear it to avoid suggesting that you are too focused on your personal/family life, or making your interviewer wonder if you would take maternity leave at some point. It's garbage on multiple levels.

Agreed - my point was more so that it is definitely not cause for concern if no one hears today

There are plenty of schools that do not even pick up applications to read until after the new year! Plus, many professors I know don't actually come back to work until classes restart, which is probably next week. Unless you have strong evidence to the contrary, I wouldn't start presuming rejections until February at the earliest!

If this is your first time applying, and especially if you're still in undergrad, I would highly recommend taking a year or two to improve your CV through research experience and try again. I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but just these few months of post-grad research experience has improved by application a lot and I have been getting much better responses this year. I applied last year and had two interviews that ended with no offer.

I had one last year and one so far this year. Both times it was explained to me that getting a phone interview means that you meet all the requirements on paper, but the PI wants to ensure a good research/mentorship fit before spending time and resources bringing you out to the in-person. So the questions I was asked were mainly about my research goals/my dream project etc. I didn't feel like I was being tested on my qualifications/rehashing my CV, more just having a two-way convo to determine if there was a possibility that we could have a mutually beneficial mentor/mentee relationship.

Just got the itinerary for my interview and was wondering what to wear for dinners and a scheduled visit to a children’s hospital. I think I’m keeping my interview outfit for the hospital visit but this is a good idea for dinners. Thank you! ?
