whatdidigetinto got a reaction from PsyHike in Level of preparation in on-campus vs. online degrees
I am currently doing it online, and asked the same.  A significant portion of the degree involves placement hours, which needs to be in-person.  I am doing my hours in a hospital, talked with a nurse who is also upgrading her skills via online degree and she mentioned the same - because of the amount of in-person work hours required to correspond with your classes, online doesn't seem to matter.  It is also becoming much more common, also removing some of the stigma

I am commenting because of this thought and I am going to be blunt - You don't stand a chance if you approach your applications with this defeated attitude.
It honestly seems to be a mystery why some students are chosen and not others - you have no idea what these people's references looked like, what the content of their essays was, or what the total package they presented to the applications committee looked like.  What makes you unique?  What would make you an ideal social worker?  What is your passion and motivation for going into this field?  You are more than a set of statistics, numbers, GPA and volunteer hours and so is every other applicant.  If you are choosing to spend time and energy applying, please do so with a more confident approach.  Ask yourself why you belong there and let that show in your application.

I'm in program too.  It's straight through - you take classes all three semesters of the year (spring/winter/fall) until you graduate.  However, you do have breaks - there is a reading week in both fall (the week after thanksgiving), winter (the week following family day), and a break over Christmas.  The classes don't fill the entire 4 months of the summer, and there's a few weeks off then too.

I applied to that program.  I have not heard back yet from Windsor , but got a phone call Friday that I was accepted to Laurier’s online MSW.  I went to Windsor's info session, and their set up/program seems really interesting.

I'm assuming they have to consider maximum class sizes, as they likely only have a certain number of qualified teachers and want to maintain a certain teacher/student ratio.  Then there's also the consideration of finding everyone a placement ... I would have a worse opinion of being accepted, but told there's no placement spots for me so I would really meet the degree requirements in the expected timeframe.
(The disclaimer is that I'm still waiting to hear from both programs I've applied to.)

Maybe the admissions committee has some sort of bet going on about how often us applicants will email/call/check LORIS/etc.  (just amuse me ... the waiting game is harsh.)

I will give you the advice my husband gave me ...
I wasn't going to apply.  I didn't think I would be accepted, so when I brought the subject up to him I said maybe I should go back for my BSW online.  Work in the area again for a while to get up-to-date experience, maybe better references.  (I've been in a different area so I could work from home/be with the kids.)  Try to apply in a few years when I'd have more confidence in doing so.
He told me if I apply now, I'm giving myself all the reasons why I won't get accepted but there's still a chance provided I actually go through the application process.  If I don't apply at all, then it's 100% guaranteed I won't get in.

Just wishing you luck.  I'm also older, and limited in where I can go.  But I'm also more prepared now ... honestly because if I'm paying tuition again I am going to seriously apply myself.

We're supposed to know by the end of March - which would be tomorrow.
But I've been told so many different dates that I'm skeptical it's going to happen.

So sorry to hear that.  How did they let you know?  Did you get an email or did something change on your online account?
(I've applied to their working professionals program, and my application is "in process".)

Do you think they'll still be prepared to start in May?  Seems odd they aren't prepared to admit people until a week or two before the program is expected to begin.

A previous year's MSW thread said that all the application info disappears, and in it's place is a copy of your letter.  I'm still waiting to hear back from Laurier, so can't confirm this for certain.

I'm older too, and applying for my MSW.  One of my references said the life sciences would likely view this as an asset, as you have life experiences and maturity/experience is always an asset in these professions.  Here's hoping the applications committee sees it that way for us!

I've also applied to a school with deadline in the March.  I'm hoping that the fact they do rolling admissions means I'll hear before then.
