As an international student how easy would it be to get these kind of jobs anyway? Mastering out is not as easy as it seems on this board!

Do you have issues with having a quiet workplace in your department to work and how that affects your progress? Is that something that PhD students have to provide themselves?

students of color have spots in programs?

Hi everyone, recently my advisor is a little bit cross with me...I think he assumed that I have hyped him a bit for another student (which is not true) and now he has a new prospective student that he doesn't want to take on but might have to because he is the only one who works in the area the other student is interested in. Will he hold it against me if he thinks i encouraged it lol...his main goal is to publish so he may be a bit annoyed?

It might be a silly question but any help here?

Hi everyone, I have been searching some academics CVs for some time and they have their files on dropbox. Can they see I accessed it through the website? I don't want to look like a stalker.

That doesn't seem fair. If I had an older parent or parent of a young child, surely the department would ask me to confirm availability?

I was assigned a TAship with a clash with one of the main courses I wanted to take next semester. Before this, I wasn't consulted or asked if the time suited me especially since it's early morning before 8 am class. Others have gotten better sections that start at more reasonable times and they also get to have courses where they only have to grade and not teach sections. I sent an email to the curriculum committee to ask for a section change for my TA and cc-ed my advisor with a sentence that ended like this: "In the future, I will appreciate if I am asked before assignment. This is a difficult time for most of us and flexibility will be appreciated." Is this too demanding from the perspective of a 3rd year international grad student living through a pandemic or acceptable? Thoughts? I really couldn't do the TA-ship

reading this thread now is so depressing. There's lots of posters here encouraging exploitation where inspite of the OP saying the assignments are unfair and one group is systematically working more than the other, he is being told to be quiet and hush up

Are you given choice when deciding a TAship?

I have someone who wanted to know how many of you have received fellowships?

Actually, I don't like the idea of being taken advantage of in these situations but I also want to maintain a friendly relation with my housemate. I am listening to all these responses and realising my expectations were unrealistic.
