Please tell us what you can about the virtual set up? Interviewed with POI, other grad students? zoom? thanks and good luck hope you hear back soon

Hi sorry I should have added that it was before the pandemic (so for Fall 2018, 2020 admission cycles) so I don't think I can be of much help re: post-pandemic interview process.

That said, not sure if it would help, I did have skype formal interviews at 2 schools back then. One had shifted to virtual interviews for everyone before pandemic considering those who can't travel (thus for fairness). For one I could not attend in-person and had no choice but to have skype interviews. For both these schools, I had interviews with POI, clinical faculty, and grad students. It was all via skype but I assume it would be via zoom this year?

    Best of luck!

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has experience/insight about informal interviews. Specifically, if you had an informal chat with a POI before deadlines, if they would typically reach out for another informal one, or would they typically only extend a formal invite if they thought you are a good candidate (cause another informal may be redundant)? Just curious so I know what to expect! Of course, I know it may depend on the POI but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this.

I've had informal chat before deadlines twice (different POI) and didn't have another prelim interview with either POI (but just the formal ones).  I'm not sure if this is a general thing or not though. Also, not sure if it matters but these two were on a separate application cycle!

Does anyone have any thoughts on sending thank-you emails after an initial interview? Not sure if I should do it

Like others, I did send mine a few hours after the interview in general (the timing varied, but definitely no longer than 24 hours later)

If anyone was wondering if the Government of Canada's allocation of additional funds (291.6 million to federal granting councils) may trickle down to this year's doctoral sshrc cohort, this is the answer I got from the Ministry:

The extra funding will allow the granting councils to extend all graduate scholarships and post-doctoral fellowships that are expiring between May and August 2020 by 4 months (the equivalent of one semester). This will allow graduate students and postdocs whose funding would have expired imminently a little more flexibility to complete their program of study while social distancing measures are in place.

    Thank you for sharing this!

It would not apply to those who are applying for new funding this year.”

Do you know if it meas that those with master's scholarship and got the doctor scholarship are eligible for this extension as well? (so extending CGS-M by four months and delaying doctoral fellowship by four months).

Got an email at 3:57 p.m. to check my grad portal for UAlberta.  Please confirm I'm not dreaming!?!  I got accepted into UAlberta's SCCP MEd program!!!!!  I'm SO happy!  I've been working toward this goal for a long time.  This is the happiest day of my life!!!!!  Though, just last night I realized I had an error in my statement of intent.  I somehow said I wanted to work and live in the field of SCCP; I had a good laugh over it.  I do think, to some extent, academics "live" in their fields anyways.  I think I will tour the UAlberta campus before accepting just to really, really make sure that's where I want to be (especially because I'm either going to have rent or sell my house in Calgary now), but I plan to release my UCalgary MSc SACP offer in a week or two.

    Congrats!!!

I saw a couple people asking if anyone has heard anything about York. My POI contacted me late last week (first contact since September) and said files are being reviewed by the department. They said they’d reach out to me this week at some point to follow-up. It was a vague email and I haven’t heard anything since then but I figured I’d share the little info about it that I have. Hopefully we’ll all hear something soon! :)

Edit: I’d prefer not to share the POI who contacted me but I will say this is for the CD area

    Thank you for sharing!

Oh nice! You never know, depending on your research experience it could be just as competitive as an honours thesis!

I am only applying to clinical psychology programs at UBCO, UBCV, UVIC, SFU UofC, Waterloo, McGill, Dalhousie. I thought about counselling programs as well, but I don't have the prerequisite courses to apply for most programs.

    Best of luck to you!

I surprised it is so quiet on here... the 2019 thread  was quite active. Where is everyone applying?

I am surprised by that too! It used to be really active last time I applied. I am applying to clinical programs at UVic, SFU, UofC, Waterloo, York, and Queen's!

    Hello friends!

This is my second time applying as well. I'm interested in Clinical Psychology in the Developmental field. I have an honours degree from a Canadian university. The schools I'm interested in are: UWaterloo, OISE, Windsor, SFU, UBC, UVic, McGill, York, and Ryerson.

My CGPA is around 3.6/4.0; GRE verbal: 89th percentile, and quant: 79th percentile, writing: 4.5

I was rejected last year because I didn't have enough research experience. I was able to get a few poster presentations and writing up one manuscript, hopefully it can be submitted before the application deadline.

I look forward to hearing others' stories! We need to support each other in this stressful process.

Hi! This is my second time applying as well. I'm interested in Clinical (Neuro)psychology, also in developmental field! I am currently in Master's program (non-clinical). We have almost similar schools of interest! I'm interested in UWaterloo, SFU, UVic, UCalgary, Queen's, and York. I am also interested in OISE (SCCP) and Windsor but the research fit is a bit tricky with the core faculties there for me (e.g., good research fit with adjunct or from other clinical streams, but not too much with the core faculties ).

That's great that you are about to submit a manuscript! Publications are my main concern at the moment :(

Oh and I'm so glad that I finally found this thread! I've been looking for on for this round but I guess I was blind until now.. Look forward to hearing others' stories too!
