JHSinclair got a reaction from PainResearcher in SSHRC Doctoral 2020-2021
in previous years you were told if you were on a waitlist. So I assumed when I got my "regret to inform you" that that was it. But if nobody has been told they are waitlisted, then maybe there is a list of "meritorious alternate applicants" (from 'Selection Procedures') who will be contacted if anyone turns down their award (as a few people inevitably do).

So, so far nobody on a waitlist? Does that give those of us nearish to the cut-off a tiny tiny bit of hope?

it presumably works differently for direct applicants though. And last year people were told on their letter on SSHRC extranet if they were waitlisted. As I say though, I'm just grasping at straws, don't listen to me!

Just heard today - have been awarded a Doctoral Fellowship - 4th time applying - philosophy (+history, dead languages etc) committee, whatever number that is - score was 16.44 - have no publications but a small handful of conferences (5 or 6)- was a more or less identical application to last year's but with one change of referee and an updated biblio - last year's was awarded 12.5 - Am absolutely gobsmacked I had been told that the more often you apply the less likely you will be to succeed with SSHRC - Had totally lost hope and only reapplied this year because I really really needed to find funding one way or another - so I can only say to anyone didn't succeed this year KEEP GOING!!!!!!

Last year I received a rejection with super low score. This year I was successful with no publications and one conference added with a similar application. It truly is a lottery! Not sure what committee number (I think 4? - psychology) but was successful with 15.9.

Just received my email about 15 minutes ago. Rejected with 14.02, committee 4. No idea what to make of the score without any kind of breakdown, but it's higher than what I expected for not having much at all published!
For anyone (like me) who wasn't sure what committee they were in, check here: https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/apply-demande/background-renseignements/doctoral_committees-comites_doctorat-eng.aspx
While it's tough right now, I'd also like to remind everyone of the below:

Hi all, just rejected with a 16.28/20, no waitlist. Sociology committee three. Oof. These are head scratching numbers this year. Congrats to anyone who found their way in.

Did anyone get waitlisted this year? I noticed this new line in the selection procedures:
The committee determines the number of meritorious alternate applicants. If additional funds become available, SSHRC will contact the applicant without delay.

definitely a correlation between the more I anticipate an important email, the more absolute junk and spam I receive.

Doesn't NSERC typically come out 1-2 weeks before SSHRC results? I agree with others that this isn't looking great for us finding out this week since they are just getting their access + results yesterday/today. Because the 1st of May is a weekend, I'm guessing schools will get results by the 30th/Friday (I believe they have always found out in April).
Last year I think it was a good 2 days of extranet emails before results were released? Last year my results weren't uploaded until May 1st. I've also been checking my old extranet account and nothing yet.
Hi to everyone from last season and everyone else! Any other 4th year students here? Somehow this season of applications feels slightly more stressful than the last 4.

Yeah that’s my guess (and experience) as well. There was no pattern in number, grouping, university, etc. I hope they have more admins working this year!
