I took conceptual physics online (through orange coast community college) and did not find it challenging at all. The thought of chemistry scared me lol.  It was more principles and theories than actual physics.  Just something to look into!

I’m 31 and just started by my grad program this fall. It’s never too late to follow your dreams! Plus, at this age school is more important to me, which ultimately makes me a better student.

I was working at the time and personally paid out of pocket for my classes.  The post bacc classes aren't nearly as much as grad school so it's more doable.  I would recommend trying to pay out of pocket if you can, especially since you'll have to take loans for grad school.

I know the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire offers Audiology online.  Not sure how cheap it will be but you can do it over the summer.

Hmm, I wouldn't qualify those scores as average to be honest, especially your quantitative score.  If you look on the GRE website it will tell you how your scares compare to other test takers.  I would really invest in trying to improve your GRE scores.  I had to take my GRE twice and it was a nightmare, but definitely worth it I think. Good luck!

If this is what you really want to do I would recommend trying!  If you think your GPA is what's holding you back then you should definitely retake some classes.  I took online classes at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and I really enjoyed their CSD classes.  I also volunteered in the field but if you're working as a SLP in a school that should be good in regards to experience.  Best of luck!

Have you thought of volunteering in the field?  I volunteer at an aphasia center and feel like that greatly helped my applications.  When you reach out to speech therapy practices, it may be beneficial if you word it as you're looking for a "volunteer" experience versus internship.  I feel like places are more receptive to that since internships are usually school based and have paperwork that come with them.

I took fluency online at UWEC and really enjoyed the class and the professor!  I highly recommend taking it there.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, I have never heard of this happening.  The only way that I would be concerned is if it was one of their pre-req classes and you received a grade below a B.

You don't necessarily have to say your on 5 waitlists.  Just say that due to financial/time constraints, and the fact that you're still on the waitlist, will they allow you to wait to take the pre-req until your accepted or take it simultaneously with the program.

I heard from Seton Hall about 1.5 weeks ago that I was accepted.  However, I emailed them today to let them know I've committed to another program.  I hope that helps someone out!

I spoke with a current graduate student in the program after my interview, and she was surprised by the prompt too. She mentioned that most people in her cohort didn't take an undergraduate course that covered the treatment we were asked to write about.

I really hope it there is not a lot of weight placed on the sample. I got the email to complete the sample in a time that was not ideal so I did my best but definitely had less than 15 minutes. I felt that I did awesome in the interview though. I was hoping there would have been a link to a page with a timer or something. Writing part was not what I imagined. Good luck!!

I agree, which is why I said that I agree with what rowboat47 said.
I apologize I should have clarified that I was more so talking about during the CF year AFTER the degree is completed. I figured it was assumed because one can't complete a CF without having the degree completed first. Which should all be verified by human resources before someone is hired on to complete their CF.

I too jumped ship after about a decade in my field! I feel that most post-bac programs are designed for non-CSD/SLP/having-to-do-with-words majors, so they tend to ease you into the topics and don't assume you have prior knowledge (unless there's a pre-req obviously). I wouldn't waste time studying for the classes before you start. Once you figure out where your knowledge gaps are, then you can focus on those and brushing up on what an adjective is (*raises hand)

I don't have specifics on this, but I've spoken to three separate people who have attended and all reported a positive experience, so to me, that equates to the program having a good reputation.  Also, I do know that they allow you to do your clinical placements near your home which could be beneficial to some students who are from a different area. However, I don't have any information on their clinical experiences so that could just be allowed during the last semester.

I also transitioned from another field and just got into grad school, and I did basically this exact same thing. While I was still working (summer 2016), I took A&P of speech online (through University of Iowa) and studied for the GRE. That fall, I took the GRE and then I started taking the ASHA prereqs (Psych, Biology, Stats, etc.) online through a community college. I also applied for a post-bacc program, and then stopped working/started that in Summer 2017. Once I started the postbac, I began volunteering in a research lab on campus and volunteering at an organization off campus. (My work schedule was too unpredictable to start volunteering before then.)
The transition seems daunting, but you can totally do it. One step at a time! Figure out what you can do while you're still working, get the ASHA prereqs done (if your previous degree didn't include them), maybe take a CSD course or two if you want to test the waters. Personally, after being out of school for 8 years, I found that undergrad CSD classes were really not THAT difficult. I think it helps when you're not 20 and burned out on school!
Btw, I think grad programs like people who change careers! My big application concern was that I've only been in SLP Land for 9 months, whereas traditional undergrads have potentially 4 years of volunteering and research experience. As it turns out, I think the committee valued my life experience! I'm sure they will value yours too! Good luck!

I had no experience/background in CSD courses (or knowledge of language development) and I found that the classes are designed to teach you the information as you progress through the hierarchy of CSD classes.  I started out with anatomy and physiology of speech mechanism and also normal language development- those two were foundation courses that prepare you for the more detailed courses.
The first year that I took classes I also worked full time but it got to be too much so I ended up leaving my job to focus on school and volunteering within the field.  It's definitely doable though depending on how many classes you plan on taking each semester.

I'm a career changer as well and just recently accepted into grad school!
I don't think it's necessary to study before the pre-req classes, most post-bacc programs will start out with the fundamental courses and then you will advance to more in depth classes, so they will adequately prepare you. If anything I would focus outside studying on the GRE since that's personally one of the more challenging parts of an application (at least in my opinion).  Do you know where you're planning on taking the classes?  I did the online program with University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and really loved it.  I know there are a few out there but that one worked best for me (since it was online) and seemed to be more affordable than some of the other ones.   Good luck!

Hi! I'm so sorry. A ton of my buddies are in this spot now. Don't lose hope! I hear from graduate students all the time that they got into my school's program well after April 15. I'm a big thinker/planner/contingency type of person and if I didn't get in this year, here were some of my gap year plans:
    Apply to developing programs
Apply to more private colleges in rural areas
Use edfind to find programs that align with what I have to offer GPA/GRE wise
    become a SLPA
Get a certificate in assistive technology, go work in the schools
    Do research in the field
Take the GRE again (154 verbal, 143 quant, 4.5)
Research more programs that don't take the GRE
Gain more experience with multicultural issues or populations
Going into this process, I tried to view my application the way an admissions board does: they usually score the applications for certain things - Multicultural experience, leadership experience, research experience, GPA, GRE, etc. I made sure to check off as many of those as possible.
I was nervous because my overall was 3.36 on CSDCAS, 3.67 CSD, and my GRE quant was low. I had leadership, excellent reccs, multicultural experience, and a solid statement. I ended up getting into two schools early and rejected from 4. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few, but I only needed one.
I hope this helps. It can feel lonely this time of year when everyone is trying to be quiet/respectful/silently miserable. I'm rooting for you!

I think your best bet here would be to shoot them an email and phone call and inquire about if the position has been filled or not.  If not, this will give you a chance to reiterate your interest in the position!
