Gotcha! I think 18k per year is pretty good for them tbh. I’ve never seen anything higher than that on here. It’s definitely still a lot of money though. Good luck with all your future plans!

The best advice that I could give you is: Everything will be fine, and it’s totally normal to be a bit fluxed after graduating from undergrad (congratulations!!!). A gap year is a good way to hone in on your focus and also take a breather from school; I would actually say take two years off to get some post-college experience, which can help differentiate you from other candidates.  I would also recommend volunteering a little bit in addition to working full-time so that way you could vary up your recommendations and resume.  I don’t want to be cliché when saying this but the adage is true: “The only way to fail is if you don’t try.”  The worst that any school could do is reject you, and that would be fine, not finitely life altering, while conversely an acceptance could be life changing.  I don’t think I did anything too special for admittance to grad schools; if you offer a compelling personal statement, have good recommendations and a solid resume, I’m sure most grad schools would love to have you.  I’m attending UChicago SSA, and thinking of pursuing a PhD, so I hope to see you around on-campus someday, perhaps.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.”

Wait, I'm so confused, I thought Advanced Standing was one year? Unless there is a part-time online program that I'm unaware of?

What a rollercoaster of emotions—sorry you had to go through that!! I haven’t heard of this happening before, but if you wanted to put your mind at ease, you could try calling the office and confirming your acceptance letter. I hope it all works out in your favor!

Hi guys I also just declined my spot for the two-year MSW program, as I will be attending Hunter’s program for pretty much the exact same reasons tpg13 said, I cannot justify the cost/debt despite the scholarship I received. So one more spot will be open! And best of luck to you all!

I think your chances are very good! Write a decent personal statement and you should be set. I don't know the admissions statistics for all of those schools but you are a strong candidate imho and I'd be gobsmacked if you didn't receive admission offers from at least a few of the schools you mentioned above.

There is a fabulous thread on here about debt for an MSW...i cant find it but basically dont go into more debt than necessary for an MSW. Make sure it is a CSWE accreditted program. But otherwise, just get the requirement for licensing and dont worry over prestige. Its not worth the money if you have a better option

This is just my two cents but if you're considering staying in VA at all I think you should go to VCU. I've heard from multiple people that VA has some of the strictest licensing requirements in the country (also heard that about NY and California, but it was corroborated by fewer people) which makes it very difficult to practice in VA if you didn't get your license in the state. My old therapist, for example, had to take I think two or three additional classes at VCU after being licensed for ten years in Maryland in order to practice in VA. You may already know this, but I just wanted to make sure you were aware.
As @ML878 said, it really just depends on where you want to end up. You should think about where you see yourself living and working long-term and make a choice based on that. Both schools have good reputations in their respective areas so it just depends on where you wanna be. It's a tough choice! Best of luck.

Those are 2 great options, congrats! I think it depends on where you see yourself after graduating. If you know you want to end up in NYC, it might be a good idea to go to Hunter (and unfortunately take on debt) because the NYC social work market is pretty competitive and it’s better to get your foot in the door sooner rather than later. If ending up in NYC isn’t a firm requirement, then it’d be more financially sound to go to VCU and take advantage of the in-state tuition. And I’m not sure what the job market looks like there, but you can probably look in neighboring states like Maryland or DC if for some reason you can’t find a job in Virginia (but that’s probably highly unlikely!) and sure, NYC jobs may pay more but the cost of living is really insane. I’m only able to afford going to Hunter/staying in NYC because I’ll be living at home. Does your 25k debt factor in cost of living already?
At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with either choice, it just depends on what you prioritize (having less debt upon graduation? Living and working in a very diverse (also expensive!) city?) And it seems you’ve already compared the 2 programs academically, but I think the education we’ll all get at the end is pretty standard since both programs are CSWE accredited. Good luck with this tough choice!

Yeah, that's crazy. I applied last year on the 15th and was accepted on April 16th, but they also took upwards of three months to get back to some people who submitted in November/December, so I was just grateful they only took two months to get back to me. It definitely seems like their admissions process could use some fine-tuning. Wishing you all the best!

I submitted my application on Feb 15th (a little over 8 weeks ago) and I reached out to them and they said 2 more weeks, so looking at the beginning of May. I didn't realize they were that backed up! On the portal it says decisions are given within 6 weeks, so I didn't expect for it to end up being closer to 10 weeks or more.

Another thing to consider is if any of the classes you have have taken at Cal State will transfer to U of Washington.  If they don't accept all of your courses then having to repeat requirements could delay your graduation plans and you'll want to be sure your funding will cover that.  That aside I think wellbeing is tremendously important and especially when doing something as difficult as graduate school you need to set yourself up for success.  If the move to Washington feels right then it probably is.  Even though the program doesn't have a hospital internship, there may be a way to create an opportunity for you to get some training in that setting if you ask.

I finally got accepted to my backup school this morning, University of Kentucky. It is where i am currently getting my BA! Good to know that if i get rejected next week by Columbia i will have a smooth transition into graduate school here. ? Now whatever happens, happens!

I did ask them regarding the ranking and they didn't tell me either. I suppose the emails sent to us were identical. Basically a waitlist offer. Waitlisted is better than a rejection, so let's all wait patiently. No matter which program/schools we head to, we'll all contribute uniquely to our chosen field.

Honestly, i think that for the vast majority, it wont make a difference. What really matters is that your program leads to licensing in your state.
At the end of the day, i think the college matters very little. And i say this with first hand experience from the college I went to as undergrad, making the mistake of buying into this lie that it somehow made a difference because it was such an awesome school. And sure I think it was much more rigorous than many schools and compared to a lot of people I think the school really prepared me much better. However, the employers really didn't seem to care about the school. They just wanted to know that I did well and got the degree and had the experience. I think the MSW is similar. It may be different in an entirely different program, like becoming a doctor or something but in Social Work, it just really needs to be CSWE accredited.

When did you apply? Just asking because I applied on the 2/15 deadline last year and didn't hear back until April 16th (I was accepted, but chose not to go because they only offered me 11,000 in aid). It is definitely very frustrating but I don't think calling them and demanding a decision is the best thing to do if you actually want to go.

I did notice that, thanks for the heads up. I don’t foresee scholarships from the other programs I applied to, so this might be the best bet for me.
Congrats on Pittsburg! Ditto on New Orleans by the way. I’m from the Southeast originally, and I really want to work there (currently based in NYC). I’m going to the open house this weekend, so I hope I’ll have better insight after that.

Hi all! I’ve been accepted to Tulane and UT Knoxville’s program in Nashville. Tulane offered a scholarship.
I’m still waiting to hear from Columbia and Fordham. I currently live in Brooklyn, so I’m considering staying if I’m admitted to either. That being said, New Orleans and working in the South has always been the dream.
    Good luck everyone!!

    I just wanted to update,
I only ended up applying WVU. Thankfully I got in.
I didn't bother applying elsewhere because of the cost. I just knew it was a no for me. Had i not gotten in to WVU I would have applied to Edinboro for next year, also because of cost.
So it looks like I will be starting this fall and i cant wait!

This is fascinating, would you mind specifying which online schools you are talking about that employers won’t consider? I feel like as long as it’s an accredited program, it shouldn’t matter, but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
