pgt2018 got a reaction from DevSci in Fall 2019 Developmental Psychology Thread
i'm sort of in the same boat with you. i've gotten accepted to one of my top choices but i've decided to still go to all my interviews. reason being (1) as @Psyhopeful said, you never know if this school is going to be a better environment or a better fit. it's good to keep an open mind. (2) visiting other schools may bring up questions or things that you never thought of before for e.g. what if the second school is able to offer you an amazing funding package or has this resource that you never thought existed before? that knowledge can also help you later on, when you decide on things to consider for your post-doc (3) networking opportunity!! you will have a chance to meet with renowned faculty in your field and that in itself is an opportunity you should never pass up. you are also going to meet fellow prospectives that you can network and learn from - these are people that later on you will meet at conferences anyway so its good to start your networking from now!

I think unfortunately it is true that it sometimes is just luck. I had a professor tell me that I was "a perfect fit" for a program and "exactly what they needed" and I got wait listed. Of course the credentials (GPA, GREs, experience, presentations, pubs, etc.) are very important, but I've gotten feedback that those are just for narrowing things down. The Applicants that get chosen are those who know how to hold a compelling, articulate, but most importantly, authentic conversation during the interview. In my first couple interviews I had the problem of getting too nervous and becoming rigid and losing my flexibility and authenticity a bit. If you're in an interview, they're already impressed with you as a student. You don't have to sell your smarts, you have to sell the rest of you! This of course may just be my experience (I've only interviewed at 5 schools as well) but all the feedback I've gotten has told me that when it comes down to the top 20 or so best applicants, the ones who were easy to talk to are the stand outs, all credentials aside.
This process sucks. Its a real blow to the ego. Remember you are AMAZING for being motivated enough to put yourself through this and for getting interview invites in the first place!
Also, when this process has me down, I really enjoy this thread. Full of good laughs and relatable content

pgt2018 got a reaction from Bopie5 in Resume vs CV?
I would submit an academic CV. A resume may be more appropriate for a job application.

Yeah, but have you guys gone back to your email to read responses from POIs to analyze each and every character in case you missed something the first time??? ?

I know that there have been mixed responses on this in the past but where are you guys re: emailing POIs after you submitted your application?
I'm thinking of thanking those who I had spoken to over the phone/Skype and those who had responded to me enthusiastically over email to inform them that I had applied, but wondering if this is even an acceptable practice nowadays. Thoughts?

pgt2018 got a reaction from Fi19 in Necessary to check GRE and transcript status?
Wondering about this too. I receive a notification when the transcripts are received (you can often track that from your end when you place the order). But I haven’t heard anything about the GRE.
Might be worth a call to the grad admission office just to make sure.
