  1. Hey guys! I ended up committing to Columbia. I got many messages asking about how I managed to get into these schools as an international etc. This was my first time applying and I got lucky, but to those who did not get in anywhere, you'll get in next year! Absolutely everything happens for a reason, and you'll end up where you're meant to be, which will be a great place for sure. If this is what you want to do, don't EVER give up. YOU GOT THIS! If anyone wants to contact me, please feel free. I am not an expert by any means, but I did get into 4 pretty good schools for my PhD in Biomedical Sciences, and I am happy to help as much as I can!

  2. Hey guys! I need your help! I got into both Columbia and Duke and I am trying to make a decision here. I am still waiting to hear from other schools that I have interviewed at, but the final decision will be between Duke and Columbia. I am leaning a little bit more towards Columbia, but I would like to know your opinion! Thank you so much.

Any international students hearing back from UMich Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology(MCDB) after the interview? Currently I only know one got accepted on 2/21. I am wondering whether they are still sending out acceptances. Waiting is such torture...

Hey! Sorry to let you know that UMich has sent out all its offers (from what I've heard). I would check your online portal. UMich is NOT international friendly AT ALL (because it is a public school and we are not funded). I heard back from PIBS the same week I interviewed there. Was rejected post-interview because they only took one international (I have been working here for over a year and had recommendation letters from Umich PI's).

Hi! Has anyone who interviewed at NYU sackler for immunology cluster on 31stJan -1st Feb heard back yet?

Hi! They're probably waiting to send offers (unless it's an amazing fit for the school/program) until the last round of interviews is finished -- which is Feb 28 - March 2nd (I'm interviewing that weekend)

  5. I will sacrifice a goat if you want me to HAHAHAHA whoever you are, can we be friends

    University Of Chicago Physics, PhD (F19) Rejected via E-mail on 7 Feb 2019  U 8 Feb 2019
    • Applied for both astrophysics and physics. Fingers crossed I get astro? UChicago I will sacrifice a goat if you want me to.
  6. This thread makes me happy (because I needed to read some of the things posted here) and sad at the same time. You guys got this. I am international too and went to a European school and got 4 interviews so far and waitlisted for interview at 1 school. I do not have a stellar GPA or GRE and got interviews at Ivies. We all have something that makes us special, you just have to show that in your personal statement. Everything happens for a reason, seriously!

Worries: I won't do well on my interviews and will not get anywhere, but hopefully this does not happen. I am just concerned about not being able to express myself as good as I would want to since I am European and English is not my first language (I hope they understand that). We'll see!

Excitement: I got interviews at places I thought I would never even make it to the interview! I am super excited to even have the chance to interview at all of these places honestly. If this does not work well, I got a job offer at one Ivy that I got rejected from and was my first option (cried for several days lol). So if things don't go well I will just go there and work for one year and reapply. It feels good to have a plan B for sure!

Worries: During the interview, they asked me about a time I offended someone with my work and while talking about it I unconsciously did a jerk off hand motion and then when I realized what I was doing I panicked and went “Oh shit, not gonna keep doing that motion” while pushing my hand down with my other hand ??

Excitement: At least I was chosen for an interview and if I do get in even after doing that then that means that I’m so good at what I do that I’m worth accepting an unprofessional liability with no social filter

This made my freaking day hahaha I wanna be your friend

I LOVED it. It was my first interview as well but tbh I am ready to commit after this weekend (if they let me in lol). Everyone was so friendly and awesome. Great science too. Which PIBS program are you a part of?

You're going to have a ton of fun. Best of luck. :)

I am so glad to hear this! I have been working here (I'm at BSRB) for over a year and I absolutely love the place and the science, it really is an awesome place to be for grad school! I applied to MCP :) I know my PI was doing interviews so maybe you even interviewed with him!! haha

For people waiting on Weill Cornell, there is hope. They mentioned another interview weekend in mid-Feb that they save some acceptances for!

Also, did they tell you the exact dates or 'mid' February? I am worried that if I end up getting off the waitlist (oh God I hope so!) I won't be able to attend anyway since I have Duke and Columbia on Feb 10-17 (do not have any interviews on the week of Feb 18-24th though).

    Hey all,

Wish I had found this months ago, better late than never.

Wondering about Harvard's BBS program.  It's the last one I am waiting on.  If I haven't heard back, do I hold out hope?

Programs: Boston University (Chemistry), University of Colorado (Structural Biochemistry/Biophysics), Brandeis (Structural Biochemistry/Biophysics), Tufts @ Jackson Labs (Neuro),  Rockefeller, MIT, Northeastern (Chemistry), Tufts (Chemistry), Harvard (BBS)

    Fellowships: GEM

    Accepted, Interview, Rejected

Hi! I am sorry to tell you that all (or the majority) of Harvard BBS's interviews were sent out on December 19th... if you didn't get one around that time, you did not make it to the interviews (welcome to my life). Apparently they had 1200 applicants this year... but it looks like you have other options so best of luck!

Has anyone had an interview and been rejected afterwards? Emory's interview pool was very competitive.. worried about my chances.

Honestly, if you have made it to the interview, that means they already like you a lot on paper (enough to fly you out there, pay for accommodation, etc), and just want to see that you are normal/legit/have done what your personal statement/CV says and that you are knowledgeable about your research. I feel like the pool is going to be very competitive everywhere (this year is crazy)... but try not to compare yourself to others. You have something that makes you different, I am sure! People get rejected post-interview and the % of acceptance rate varies amongst schools (I have no idea where Emory stands), but as long as you did good on your interviews and you're a good fit for the school you shouldn't worry because you did everything you could! Good luck!

You made my day! yay! I do have other interviews but Weill Cornell remains one of my top choices and would love to have the opportunity to -- at least-- interview there.
